I am amazed that no other member of the Patterson family is interested in celebrating April’s birthday with her aside from Elly. It seems a bit heartless to abandon Elly.

Cracks me up that nobody seems to read anybody else’s comments, but they all must assume theirs will be read.

16 comments so far, not counting either of mine…

And EIGHT of them are just too make a joke about “rec” sounding like “wreck”.

If there a prize, Enter.Name.Here said it first, 8 hours ago.

As for the family not celebrating April’s birthday with her…

A toddler birthday party is quite often separate from the family celebration, especially if there are older children, or other relatives or grownups who might be invited.

They don’t necessarily want to play preschool games and watch the balloon artist (though I do).

The family has probably been telling her “happy birthday” all morning , and will celebrate at dinner, when this is over, and maybe after a nap or quiet time.

I agree that it would be nice if other family members helped out at the kid’s party, too.

I don’t know whether Elly is trying to do this alone, but in my limited experience it’s often the mother(s) of another attendee or two who are asked to help supervise.

I’ve seen parties where they ALL stay, especially when their kids are still two.

I was thinking it was great that all the kids showed up. There have been very sad stories posted about birthday parties planned by a parent, then none of the invited children showed up – even if their parent(s) said they were going to come.

That’s when kid’s parties were fun. Now they just sit around with their smartphones. They play pin the tail on the donkey with an app

I never had that problem with kids’ parties. Just how long did she leave them in charge without any adults to supervise? Who would leave even one 3-year-old alone for more than 30 seconds?

I thought the rule of thumb was 1 kids for every year. Even that few would be a challenge.

This is why the rule of thumb for number of kids invited to a birthday party is the number of years the birthday child is plus one. This is not a joke.
