These two both need a different running partner. Connieās been a regular runner for quite a while, itās unrealistic (and kinda mean) for her to expect novice and out-of -shape Elly to keep up.
I wonder if it was accidental or on purpose in the last panel when El says the āButt stops hereā that it looks like the āNever Say Quitā Connie is giving a swift knee kick up Elās behind?
Just briskly walk! For most (not all) women, running is damaging to your knees. Itās because of the angle of the joint from hip to knee. Menās bodies are straighter. So unless you are a woman with really no hips, do not run for sport. (This was told to me by an orthopedist ā I used to run 70 miles a week. Now I have two knee replacements!).
I was told most people have one leg shorter than the other. My left is shorter by 3/8", only found out in my mid 30sā. You need an insert or a specially built up shoe to compensate if youāre going running. If you donāt alter your own pants you donāt realize the difference.
If sheās just getting started working out thinking walking would be the better choice. Walking is easier on the joints and can be modified with inclines and distance as her endurance increases. Add in some stretching and low impact weight training an she will be in good shape without stressing her body.
The Pattersons who are most in danger of an early grave are Michael and Elizabeth. All that processed food and sugar they eat are heart attacks waiting to happen.
Actually, the butt can help her move fast. All Elly needs is a skateboard and a lighter. When she feels one coming, just light the lighter behind her butt andā¦BLAST OFF!!

Alternate between running and walking briskly. Youāll get your stamina up. And then, in no time at all, youāll be able to run that full hour.

Iām at the stage where a half-hour of walk-and-jog (mostly walk) is plenty. Gentle stretching after is really important, too.
