The two types of TV Dads
Type 1: The Doofus the lovable moron who can barely take care of himself, let alone his children
Type 2
Yeah that first one pretty much covers it.
Yeah, that always annoyed me on TV and movies, especially if it a comedy of any sort.Or they are not inept, they have the Peter-Pan syndrome (never growing up, still acting childish) or are complete a*holes.
Mike Brady was not a moron and adored all his children the same. Cliff Huxtable was not a moron, either. Charles Ingalls, another great dad. I doubt all present day tv dads are derps. I don’t watch much tv now.
The thing about those bumbling TV dads? Men are writing the scripts. So either it’s some campaign to make women do all the hard work by saying men are useless at it (which was a strategy used in one, if I’m not mistaken) or Hollywood needs a better class of comedy writers. Or both.
This is what’s been happening on tv & commercials for the last 30 years. The boyfriends/husbands are idiots, insensitive, immature & generally inferior to their partners. The women are the calm, rational mature ones in charge. Take a good look at tv commercials & you’ll see.
Okay, one more. Robert Young in Father Knows Best. And that one is going way back. I can barely remember anything except the faces of the actors. But if he “knew best” he probably wasn’t a doofus. Ooh! He called the younger daughter “Kitten”! That’s all I got.
Ok, checked the comments… Does anyone care about Ray Campbell from Sister Sister? But apart from the best show about twins ever, This is a comic, people. You’re acting as he knows every TV show ever. Maybe he just got done watching The Simpsons. Who knows? You need to calm down yOu’Re BeInG tOo LoUd. If you don’t agree just skip the comic, and if you’re a brat X the tab. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to eat some Doritos. hMpH

That’s what I don’t like about sitcoms. The smart ass kids.

What about Walter White? He starts off as a goofy dad, but then…

Disappointing comic. Not true and not even vaguely funny.

For those who are offended, read it again. I take it to mean that it’s how the media chooses to portray TV dads, which is frustrating.

Ward Clever was the last sitcom dad who was not a doofus. Maybe Dr Stone and Henry Mitchell. Since then the sitcom has become a sh_tcom.

Clarissa’s dad on “Clarissa Explains It All” wasn’t so dumb.
