Not exoccoli, either. But it is very nutritious, tastes good – cooked or raw or hot or cold, It also is the Edible Plant of the Year for 2023.

“…I do not like broccoli. And I haven’t liked it since I was a little kid. And my mother made me eat it. And I’m President of the United States. And I’m not gonna eat any more broccoli!” – George H. W. Bush, March 22, 1990.

Use the floret part of broccoli and smother it in cheese sauce — YUM!

I had to look this up to understand the gag.

It is from this quip by American poet Ogden Nash:

    While not exoccoli,

    Is within an innach,

    Of being spinach.’’

Broccoli is the most maligned vegetable there is and that’s not fair because okra should hold that title.

This is taken from Ogden Nash’s poem: “Broccoli, though not exoccoli, is within an inach of being spinach.”

    Random Musings:

Although I’ve read some of Ogden Nash’s work, I didn’t recognize this one. Thanks to all who commented.

It did remind me of something, but for a minute or two I couldn’t figure out what it was. Then I got it: the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz! Here’s one link:

As for me, I like both broccoli (cooked, not raw) and spinach (either way).
