I help out my nabors not because I ever expect to get paid back but because I’m retired and have more free time than they do. Also, I have a snowblower, and at least one of them has only a shovel.

Unfortunately, karma does not come around back to you. It passes down in an indeterminate direction.

Shovel your own, you’re capable

Sometimes you do it because, that’s what you do.

Sometimes you might do it for just for the feels.

When you’ve made a good job of it, you’re good with yourself.

Caulfield tried for the con but Frazz has more experience at the dodge.

I don’t care about karma myself; I just try to do good for others because it’s the right thing to do.

Some of us more “woke” people? Am I a wokie? Might say that Frazz is paying it forward.

After a heavy snow storm I cleared an elderly neighbor’s driveway for them. They glared at me through the window, didn’t return my wave, or ever even acknowledged me. I don’t expect anything in return for acts of kindness but this was simply too rude.

At your age, Caulfield, you should’ve already learned how to shovel.

When you do something good it makes the world that much better. When you do something bad it makes the world that much worse. That’s enough. If you were interested in personally profiting in some way when you do something good, it’s a lot faster and easier to profit if you do something bad.

I have to be at work at 6 AM, so on days when it’s snowing well into the day, he often clears the snow off our sidewalk. On days I don’t work I’ll clear my own, but only rarely do his more than half-way. I sorta feel guilty, but no too much. He has a snow blower. I have a shovel. And I suspect I’m at least thirty years older.

If someone slips on my neighbor’s walk, he might come down on my walk, injure something, and sue. So when I shovel and salt, I try to do the walks of the neighbors on either side. The neighbors do the same.

Alternatively, if it’s a lengthy storm, you might need to shovel several times. The neighbors who get up early can do the early shift, and i can do the late shift.

Giving to the poor isn’t always about money. Some people are poor in strength or health.

Basically, if everybody is nice giving to everybody, then everybody is getting nice, too.

So, you waited until winter to talk about karma because she is a dish best served cold?

Unexplainable? Caulfield’s more of a jerk than I thought.

KARMA IS WHAT YOU DO. Good, bad and indifferent.

This is simply “paying it forward”.

Karma, if it exists, does not appear to be under our control, nor even to follow any clearly defined rules.

maybe, knowing Caulfield’s attitude, he figures it would be a long shot to ever pay off…
