I had wondered why the old Garfield strips have so much more action than the current ones. I figured it must be because there is now the technology to copy the drawing of one panel into other panels so it doesn’t have to be drawn each time. I can’t blame Mr. Davis for this, as in my attempts to do cartoon strips, I find it next to impossible to draw the characters uniformly enough. The fact that Garfield stays looking the same but saying different things helps in making the “Garfield minus Garfield” comics where it’s the other characters that do most of the moving.
