I hope Jon isn’t saying in the ending panel “son of a b——-.” (I’m reminded of another Sunday “Garfield” where Garfield listens in to a recording on the answering machine from a girl who Jon met a pizza parlor. Although she said she was interested in seeing him again, Garfield angrily destroyed the tape because Jon had pizza without him.)

If they ever did a Sunday version of “Garfield Minus Garfield”, this could qualify!

I did this once and discovered an old message from my now deceased dad. It was quite a surprise.

So this is how answering machines worked – with cassette tapes?

Those were the good old days, before telemarketing and robotic callers.

mine (digital) fills up with people telling me my PC is in trouble (I don’t do Windows), people wanting to buy my house (I’m not selling), and people speaking Mandarin (?)

Kinda forgot to plug it in Jon.

That’s what I thought would happen. It happens to me when I go through old storage boxes!

So, does this mean he doesn’t have any friends???!!!

While cellphones have become mainstream to the point of where practically everyone is expected to have one, I know that plenty of homes and businesses (especially brick-and-mortar businesses) still use landline phones along with answering machines.

This is unironically sad. Jon will never remember the memories he once had with the answering machine. And he will be possibly dead by the time he remembers.

Tapes do degrade Jon.
