From The Conservative Lexicon, the entry for:
Controversial – An adjective applying to any fact or set of facts that Conservatives don’t want to believe. Examples: evolution and Climate Change. Once facts have been labeled controversial, stating them as facts is evidence of Liberal Bias, and can thus be dismissed as “Junk Science” or “Fake News”.
After #45 was inaugurated (a dark day, indeed), Koch’s lawyers issued a FOIA, demanding all the names and bios of every government employee and scientist who diligently did their job, to investigate climate change. Those scientists were later given 30 days to move to non-existent offices in Kansas City. This is absolutely what an autocratic regime does to quash dissent to their agenda. Magas have outlawed words, phrases, science, and even the term “Climate Science” from official state web sites and school education.
Quoting Neil deGrasse Tyson, from his Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, via WikiQuote:
“We’re pumping greenhouse gases into our atmosphere, at a rate not seen on Earth for a million years. And there’s scientific consensus that we’re destabilizing our climate, our world, the only world we know. Yet, the powers, the political powers, are in the grip of denial, for profit. It’s a paralysis, a denial, a disconnect between what we know and what we do. Being able to adapt our behavior to challenges is as good a definition of intelligence as any I know.”
And not adapting behavior to those challenges is as good a definition of stupidity as I know.
