It’s not a “baby” until it’s born… That kind of confusion is at the base of the GOP inability to notice that women are fully entitled to all the rights that any man has.

It seems the woman (I’m guessing because I’m not a biologist) on the right is engaged in misinformation.

Misinformation – (noun) any statement or question that forces you to defend your manifestly correct positions with a moral or logical argument.

Embryos are not babies, and embryos don’t choose anything at all. And the belief that an embryo has more rights than a woman is INSANE.

Christians have been instructed by their churches to anthropomorphize fetal tissue. That is the only argument they are able to present when supporting taking away a woman’s constitutional right to bodily autonomy, and ignoring the subsequent harm to every single person in the country.

It’s strange that many pro-lifers tout the Bible’s teachings, but during the time of the biblical writings, life began at birth, not conception.

It never was and never has been about a collection of non-viable cells in a woman’s uterus. It has always been about control and punishment. Denying a poor, often minority woman her rights over her body is nothing more than a demonstration of control over these women. It has also been about establishing an eventual militant Christian theocracy as the US’s form of government.

If these hypocritical pro-life people honestly cared about children, then by now, in 2022, the US would have the best pre-K through high school education anywhere in the world, in every state. No child would live in poverty or be hungry. The best medical care, beginning in the womb, would be available to every mother, even if she is single, black, and living in the Mississippi delta.

Denying women’s rights over their reproductive choices is the first step. Forcing a woman to carry a pregnancy to term no matter the circumstances saddles them with more debt and ensures the mother and child stay in poverty and ineffectual. Next will be a full-throttle attack on LGTBQ rights and all types of birth control. A return to segregation and an apartheid system will not be far behind.

We have one chance to stop this; it will come in November when we can vote, particularly at the state level. We have already missed several prior opportunities to quell the rise of Christian theocracy because of voter apathy and obstinance. If these pro-life et al. people get back into complete power, your ability to vote them out will be eliminated.

Methinks the the majority of commenters doth protest too much. You progressives need to research who Margaret Sanger was and what she stood for. It had nothing to do with rights, but eugenics and it was the black population she was focused on reducing. So much for your argument of “women’s rights.”Well known fact and in writing. That said, why don’t you militant abortionists practice responsible sex and and comprehend in your feeble and pathetic excuse for logic that the sole intent of sexual intercourse (from a biological perspective (darn “that follow the science”) is procreation, not recreation. Abortion is not a cure for poor judgment.

A fetus/embryo, by definition, is not a baby. No peer-recognized study has concluded the fetus “feels pain” or is “sentient”. The receptive fields are not established until the 35th week – and only earlier if the fetus is born becomes a baby. This is reality. School is out. PhD, Cognition & Behavior

(an excellent paper on fetal development is Richard Rokyta, Fetal Pain Neuro Endocrinol Lett. 2008 Dec;29(6):807-14

FYI, an infant cannot sustain itself. It is even more vulnerable outside the womb than in it. That’s why we have parents, to nurture us to the point we can sustain ourselves.

I’ll talk slow, because I know this is complicated: A. Fetus. Isn’t. A. Baby. If y’all worried as much about kids after they’re born, as you do about a blastocyst that looks like a booger, you’d have a far less dystopian country.

There is no babies body. It is a fetus in most abortions. Any abortion done that there might be a babies body, the baby has become non viable and a death sentence for the mother if not removed.

As for the guys, I don’t want to hear any complaining about child support.

It is also about time for a minimum mandatory child support payment to the woman. The woman and child’s life should not be impaired by the father not making enough, or in many cases not working at all to avoid paying for the child’s life.

Pro birth is not the same as pro life.

Goodwyn and other Magas: Because a zygote and blastocyst has more rights than you. Because men have decided that you, as a second-class human being, are nothing but incubators and can’t be trusted to make decisions about your state-owned incubator. And the definition of a woman is, and always has been, a Maga political talking point.

Besides, a 30-40% rise in mortality rates among pregnant women is perfectly acceptable to religious nuts like Goodwyn, especially since most of those deaths will be among “The Blacks”. Besides, there are plenty of other incubators where those came from.

Meanwhile, the Federalist Society (the misogynists who gave us the current SCOTUS) said laws should be written mandating women who have abortions or even want abortions should be involuntarily committed for incarceration at State-run “Mandatory Psychiatric Custodial Facilities”. Welcome to the 17th century, Jezebels, but run by 21st century sadists and all the medieval and technological tools at their disposal.

Maybe self-righteous misogynists like Goodwyn are perfectly fine with condemning millions of women to the not-so-tender mercies of religious horrors, but those millions of women and their fathers, husbands, and brothers will not go without a fight.

Fourth panel. Skip the My Body for now. “What is a woman?”The salient question is what is a baby. At first breath, as the bible says, though we’re not supposed to be a Christian Taliban country. Biologically, there’s little difference between a convention living human and a recently dead’un, except breathing. Void of religion, it seems to be far closer towards near autonomy than conception.

Though not what the Ayatollahs of the right would say.

Once again: The point of banning abortions is NOT to reduce their number. Contraceptives, sex education, access to health care and other efforts, would accomplish that.

    That is NOT the objective.

The objective is to PUNISH SINNERS, women sinners, and especially poor women sinners. (of course, being poor shows that they are not in God’s graces and are therefore sinners anyway)

It’s not yet the first death due to a denied abortion (you know, “Taking one for the team!”), but a 10-year old rape victim in Ohio was denied an abortion. By self-righteous bible-thumping people like you , Mr. Holier-Than-Thou Goodman.

Denied for the extreme right wing political and religious reasons people like you push, and not for medical or even human reasons. Make a ten-year-old push out a baby one quarter the size of her body, endangering her life!? Obviously, your “definition” of a woman is nothing more than a State-owned incubator.

Would you approve of making that child give up the baby (assuming she makes it that far) to her rapist, too? Or maybe you’ll be just fine with the State forcing that baby (and many, many more to come) to be remanded to a State-run Orphanage / Auction house? And will the State cover the medical and “special education” costs the child-mother will need, or is she on her own?

Do Magas and trolls like you even care at all? I don’t think so. IMO, you lost your common sense long, long ago with your mindless support of a criminal political party that is, for want of a better term, insane.

Not a baby yet, just a zygote or an embryo. The Christian Bible says that life begins at the first breath. Even so, the Children of God were commanded to put to death any child born deformed. But… America needs more unwanted children.

To Varvel and most other anti-abortionists, it’s all about forcing women to bear unwanted children. The welfare of the fetus is paramount, and the care and nurturing of the baby, if it comes to term, is then someone else’s problem.

I heard today that the anti-abortion / anti-woman / anti-family movement is trying to recruit more black women to their cause. I don’t understand this as it’s poor women and especially black poor women who stand to suffer most from their mean spirit and efforts to punish women.

The baby doesn’t get a choice in any case, of course. No matter what side of the debate you’re on, the baby can’t be consulted. But the woman on the left has made the mistake of answering the questions of the woman on the right, who is not arguing in good faith. She’s “just asking questions”, but they’re not questions in pursuit of answers — they’re questions intended to change the subject each time, intended to waste the other woman’s time rather than to come to an agreement. it is therefore a rather good depiction of the pointlessness of the debate.
