Does…does this author know anything about football? (1) A coach doesn’t say “Blitz!” out loud; the other team might hear him, yes? (2) What the hell does “span out” mean? (3) Why is Kaz calling the plays and not Gil? (4) 21-21 after the first quarter? You mean each team has moved the ball down the field three times in 12 minutes?
I’ve got no idea what’s going on in today’s strip. A one man blitz, called by the assistant coach? (The whole defensive line should be there if a blitz is going to work). Calling it loudly, to make sure the other team hears it? (Of course, they’d know that from the way defense lined up anyway.) What does the #50 frothing at the mouth have to do with anything? Is someone getting tackled before the center has even snapped the ball? (Looks like the quarter back is still calling for it in panel 3.) As everyone has said 21-21 at the end of the quarter? Is this the first play where there was any defense?
And, to show his deep knowledge of HS football, in tomorrow’s strip the Terriors will be awarded a corner kick.
Vito from Goshen noticed the really sharp bettors picked the “over” for the first quarter. One of the many prop bets on the Big Board lets you pick the winner of the Gil/Luke punchout, for the prestigious Valley Froth Cup.
Next spring, Kaz & Gil will be yelling to their pitchers what pitch to throw. Opposing teams will no longer need to use Houston Astros sign stealing techniques or bang on a bucket to tip their batters to the pitch that’s coming
This just shows Kaz’s brilliance. His yelling out the “blitz and span out” instruction completely confused the Terriers, so the center snapped the ball too early, hence the quarterback’s questioning “hut?”
I think Gil left the game right after kickoff. Well, at least he showed up at all, that’s rare. And speaking of rare, I assume it’s rare that you go a day without reading Mopped Up Thorp.

21-21, end of first QUARTER? Nice defense. Final score will be 85-79 or so.

Welcome Danny “Mad Dog” Maivia. That 21-21 first quarter score was actually the concurrent basketball game score.

And what’s up with calling Milford by its school name but opponent by their mascot ??? And the storytelling tailspin continues.

This is just embarrassing.

Much like yesterday’s FLICKING topic, Danny Maivia is DANNY MAMA. And in P1- That’s Henry behind Kaz giving defensive football pointers.

If Danny is plowing into the quarterback in the middle of a “hut,” he’s clearly offside.

Forget signaling. We’re going to shout the plays so loud that the other team can hear them too.

No wonder Gil and Kaz were relaxed coming into this game. Though Kaz doesn’t look that relaxed now

My favorite line of dialogue in a while, Hut?/ Oh no-. At least the ? and / are the same key.

P-1: Kaz places an order from Tim Horton’s.
P-2: If Marty can see a player frothing at the moth from the booth, someone should call EMS. The poor kid is having a seizure!
P-3: The final hit of the half is so violent, Milford’s unifrms go from Home team to Visitors.

Hmmmm….yesterday flick and today span….really can’t remember the last time I’ve heard those 2 words, certainly not related to football

They need to hire a technical advisor. Yelling plays from the sidelines? 6 TD’s in the 1st Quarter—in a high school game??
