Mr. Payne’s cartoon raises interesting issues. First reports indicated Benedict will be reclaiming his name and moving to a convent to read, write, and pray. More recent reports suggest he will be living in facilities being renovated in or very near Vatican City. While he has had great influence on the body that will nominate his successor, it’s been nearly 700 years since a Pope lived in lobbying distance the seat of Peter. Catholicism is a religion, but when you get to Vatican City, it becomes a very focused replica of a ‘United Nations’ with influence on practicing Catholics in nearly every nation on the planet and EVERY state in the United States. The “Holy C’s” influence on world politics is hard to miss over the last 1900 years since it laid foundations in Rome and Constantinople. My own belief’s do not require me to pay much attention to what a pope says, but history, and more recent events, do require voters be aware of the influence Rome has on our politics in the USA.I don’t see him retiring in Fla., or playing golf. Dominoes, chess, and perhaps shuffleboard…but he’s movin’ kinda slow.Respectfully,C.

Depends. Is he more like a retired Republican president (golf) or more like a retired Democratic president (active service to humanity)?

Or you can be prez and still have time to play golf and other fun “activities” with a serial philanderer. He tried to hide it though…
