Doc, I’m with you! I still read the newspaper and I LOVE the library - nothing like turning those pages and relishing a good book!

Like my elder’s neighbor friend told me in my teen years back in the 70’s, “every time some new technology comes along, the old technology becomes obsolete”.

Give me a book anyday. I love the smell of vintage books and comics. We had a cat who enjoyed the smell of the vintage books, but he ignored the electronics. I am in no hurry for a Kindle. Also, they are inaccessible to our blind friends.

cwreenactor, I’d imagine that Braille e-books are in the pipeline, if they’re not already out there somewhere. Actually, I can see how that would be a BOON to the blind; Braille books in paper are hefty and expensive, and not every book out there gets a Braille edition. I’d expect that creating a gadget which can translate any given e-book download into a Braille output would be (reasonably) straightforward.

fritzoid: Actually the e-books for the blind are “print” with audio capabilities. There are e-books that have audio capabilities, but Amazon/Kindle has been very slow in making their product/s accessible for the blind. You can get more information at the National Federation of the Blind website: http://www.nfb.org. You can do a keyword search for Kindle and e-books to see what they have to say.

Kavalier and Gentlemen are two supurb books, and if you Like them, find a copy of The Yiddish Policemen’s Union.

I am quickly becoming a fan of this comic. It is very nicely drawn and appeals to the old-time comics fan in me.

^ And then you can burn your useless old ink-on-paper books…
