It really says a lot that we can look back on Ronnie, with his trickle down voodoo economics, and see a good president when compared with the Dumpster. But, in many ways both are of the same Repub ilk. They both promoted those things that would benefit the wealthy at the expense of the poor folks like me. (Prior to Dump, I owed no taxes; now I do.)
And, prior to their final connection with Repubs, both Ronnie and Dump were well connected to the Dems. Ronnie was led astray by his mistress/wife to the Repubs. But, I’ll give it to Dump. He really made an astute decision to switch to the Repubs as he had no chance to be nominated by the Dems. Hilary had that nomination locked up, so all Dump could do would be to elevate himself within the party. He wanted more than that. So, he fed the Repubs a bunch of s—t and they ate it up. Unfortunately, most of the US ate it up, too, and now we have a coup attempt, a doubly impeached president, a pandemic becoming endemic, and an even more out-of-balance SCOTUS. And that’s just the obvious stuff.
Reagan and Trump were both white male Republicans but that is the sum total of their similarities. Reagan had his flaws as all humans do and politicians to a much greater extent but he was a true patriot and would have been mortified over the prospect of an armed attack on the seat of our government much less a party to it.
Reagan and his admin started the republicans down the path to trump and Jan 6th. Don’t forget Iran-Contra, trickle down theory. Nancy and her astrologist. He was the beginning of this whole catastrophe.
The fantasy Reagan that republicans continue to worship today was a farther right wing operative than the actual Reagan, and yet in his day Reagan was pretty right wing.

Regan was the entry point for the Qbies, though. He saw it as a competition, not a collaboration.

St. Ronnie did long lasting damage to the U.S. The Rump did a long lasting damage to the Republican party.

There’s a direct line between the two. Newt is the first node after the pioneering work by Nixon and Roy Cohn.
It has been fueled by ever increasing wealth inequality and the surrender of government to billionaires.
.
The next step will be the elimination of democracy in America followed by a complete oligarchy in the style of Putin.

Reagan was a traitor who negotiated with the Ayatollah Khomeini before the election to sabotage Carter.

King Richard the Nix started the Republicans on their steep downward slide towards treason and insanity, St. Ronnie the Senile just greased the skids.

We might need to redefine the term “civilization”. On this side of the fence there’s a group going for anarchy.

The USA was progressing until Reagan got into office, the Maga rebels are a direct result of backward republican policies.
