College was cheap back in the days since the states funded education. From what I learned the University of California was vitually free until Reagan came in and defunded it. He didn’t want to fund the education of someone who was going to protest his policies, which is another way of saying keep America stupid.

Speak for yourself. Our kids do help. But then, our son-in-law is European, and actually has some respect for his elders, and even parents.
But then, parenting was apparently possible when he was growing up, which it hasn’t been here for several generations.
