In 1816, weren’t we (Americans) living in a nation that openly claimed to be governed “under God” and citizens put trust in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights?-Weren’t most babies allowed to live and grow after conception until live birth, unless nature intervened with fatal problems, and most mothers welcomed God’s gift of a child?
When I started to school, at the word “to”, we extended our arm in the direction of the flag. A couple years later, someone noticed what it looked like and we kept the heart or forehead position throughout. The original pledge author was both Baptist clergy and a socialist. They have been trying to hide that fact since.
Just goes to show that things are more like they are now than it was back then.

Seriously, though (and BTW), America is great today. We literally can’t go “back” to some mythological time that is the result of some half-baked one-liner right wing political talking point.

Remember, set the clock back an hour on November 6th, and the country back 200 years on November 8th.

History looks a lot different looking back at it instead of living forward through it.
