Yep, that’s the way they think. Read the bible only for the bits that support your own, deep psychological failings. You forget the part about Jesus washing the feet of others, the prodigal son, the parable about the good samaritan. In fact, if Jesus himself came to you, you’d probably call Immigration. The hypocrisy is what made me an atheist.

The baker lives in a all white, straight, religious neighbourhood. So, he doesn’t have to love everyone else.

Please be careful where you apply the tar and feathers. There are many Christians who actually follow the teachings of Jesus the Christ. They have tolerance, if not love for others even when the others are not like themselves. Like Muslim terrorists, there are radical parts of Christianity that get all the press and give the religion a bad name.

Also, Christians don’t have a monopoly on loving their neighbors, it is also central to Judaism and Islam as well. In some cases they do it better than some Christians. I confess my ignorance about other religions in this specific area, but I have my theories that I will have to check out.

He didn’t say he wouldn’t serve them. He said he wouldn’t make a cake that celebrates something that is against his beliefs. It’s a private business, he can serve whomever he wants. Why not go to a homosexual bakery. I’m sure they would make your cake, or are you just after some fame and fortune?

Does this mean that a Jewish Paramedic will legally be allowed to allow a Muslim victim to die simply due to “Religious Beliefs”, or a Catholic fireman refuse to put out a fire in a Jewish Synagogue? And yes, it’s the SAME THING!!

That’s okay… I don’t support any company that advertises their “christianity”.

I hope those bakeries stop serving divorced people and anyone with a tattoo. Wonder if those bakeries serve crab cakes or put bacon on any of their pastries?

I wonder if this means we can have a plumber who won’t serve Muslims and a fire department who won’t help white people?

As a “liberal” Christian, I feel it is our duty to extend a hand to our neighbors and by “neighbors” I don’t just mean those who “look like us” or share the same religion, political beliefs or even sexual orientation. Jesus said to “Love your neighbor as yourself”. That about says it all. I would encourage anyone to listen to “Would They Love Him Down In Shreveport” sung by The Oak Ridge Boys. OK, suppose I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Aryan*. It is against my religion to have any dealings with black people. So it is against my religion to serve them or to hire them.

Last time I checked my Bible, Jesus was a first century Jew. Maybe I have an old version and need Bible 2.0.

Aside from religious reasons, the most common excuse for allowing businesses to refuse service to certain people is the libertarian idea of “freedom of association”, which says no one should be forced into a business transaction that they do not want to be part of.

That falls apart under the weight of the history of majority groups discriminating against minority groups. Absent the Rule of Law here, “freedom of association” opens the door to all kinds of discrimination. If you’re naive enough to think we’ve completely moved on from the era of Jim Crow & blasphemy laws being used to persecute minority groups, you have not been paying attention.
