Elizabeth Warren’s proposal for forgiveness of student debt (on a sliding scale; everyone under $100,000 income is fully waived; sliding scale above that) can’t get here fast enough — and it is fully funded by a wealth tax of just TWO CENTS per dollar of the PORTION of wealth assets in excess of FIFTY MILLION and an additional FIVE CENTS (to a total of 7¢) per dollar on the PORTION of assets above TEN BILLION.

And moving forward, free public education, which is currently available everywhere up through high school (which once upon a time was adequate), expanded to cover through college (which is necessary to allow equal opportunity for high-paid professions today).

Let’s also talk about offering good training programs for skilled trades (electrical, plumbing, etc) that can only be done on site (thus not shipped overseas) for those who don’t wish to attend college.

Went to community college on GI bill and learned enough to get a good job without debt.

Employment requires a college degree but the system makes it too hard to have one.

@brwydave & superposition & Darsan54: Fully agree. My Industrial Arts Classes in the 1950’s gave me the basics and I have relied on that training ever since. But, there was no auto repair program. When that became part of the curriculum, many of the ‘troubled teens,’ as they were called then, became almost model students. ‘Hands on’ learning was their best outlet to ease frustrations over the purely academic classes. It also provided them with a badly needed skill and the potential for a solid future income

I earned my undergrad degree while working full time and going to school at night. I scraped through grad school working at night and attending classes during the day, and usually working two jobs over summer break. It took longer, a lot longer, to finish. But I escaped the lingering death – sorry, I meant lingering debt trap. I admit that it was a long time ago in an America that’s now far, far away.

It now costs more for an in-state student to go to any of the University of California campuses than it does to go to Oxford.

Perhaps.. part of the problem is all those expensive tenured professors.. pulling down mega salaries while working much less than a standard 40 hour work week.. if at all.

Republicans will force you to repay the student debt, while they give tax breaks to billionaires.

Warren would forgive student debt and tax billionaires.

Let’s focus on the real issue – the insane cost of a college education. Time to pry some money out of the endowments

the Republicans want college to be more expensive, and debt easier to collect and interest rates higher.

My son, who has no college debt works at a minimum wage (plus tiny) job. He cannot afford housing without at least one other wage earner, usually two, in residence.
