If you keep your floor clean, you can just schloop up the eggs for scrambling, baking…

Not exactly serious… but if we cook it, we definitely have a 20 second rule… even more for some things.

and why are eggs so expensive? it’s not bird flu. it’s one rapacious company driving up prices just because. we need old-school antitrust prosecutions with prison time and hundreds of millions in fines

As basillisk comments above, avian flu caused a very small decrease in the egg supply. Almost all of the price increases of eggs has gone to profits of egg suppliers. There virtually NO price competition in the egg industry.

    .

Republicans believe that egg price increases are somehow caused by ‘government policies’, rather than concentration within the egg industry.

They cannot specify any specific policy, but that does not deter their fervent belief.

    .

Concentration within industries is the Republican idea of a ‘free market’.

When egg marketing companies report reduced inventory due to avian flu, but still manage to report record profits, the smell of eggs that are way past their use by date is not the only thing that stinks.

Where I live the above egg loss would run about $1.50. I’m missing the anxiety that so many have.

If the egg price gets to $5.00 a dozen it’s still a bargain. This is artificial outrage by people who have an easy life. Chevron doubling their already huge profits, and spending that money not on increased production but stock buybacks, is what we should be outraged about. Gas price war profiteering without shame or Government action!

One good things about America: if you don’t like the price of eggs, don’t buy eggs. There are lots of other foods to enjoy. We’re such whiners: other people in the world have to walk a mile to get water, and/or have to wonder if today’s bombing will take out their house and family. We get upset because we have to choose “English” when we’re calling a business.

    Sad!

We emigrated over 6 years ago to a semi-rural area. We rebuilt the chicken coop in the very first month and now have 7 chickens. We have been trading eggs for several years for things like venison, salmon…

Eat something else. Egg prices will drop as farmers replenish their hens.

Hey Jeff when are you going to let up on the egg price crap? It’s the avian flu that has hit the layers causing mass culling of the herd. The meat chickens are not affected and the average price in my state for whole chickens is $.99/lb to $1.29/lb depending if they are Kosher, Halal, or just your plain old fashion steroid pumped up chicken and chicken parts are averaging $1.49/lb. I just came back from eight days in NYC and those prices are about the same there. As the breeders rebuild their stock prices will come down. You’re beginning to sound like Mike Lester and his crusade against drag queens, total BS, totally moronic.
