    In Oklahoma, where the new State Superintendent wants to root out “liberal indoctrination,” I hear many teachers are preparing exit plans.

    You pay for what you get and you get what you pay for. And Pett’s correct to include social factors. The problem I think we have with public schools: Everybody*‍ knows THEY got a good enough education so they see no need to spend more just to give (some other family’s) kids an even better one. Plus, money is tight and the roads don’t fill their own potholes.

     *  Well, almost everybody.

    And they wonder why highly educated professionals dedicated to their professional ethics and performance get tired of being treated like that!

    The USA will pay a heavy price for submitting its public education in many states to reactionary political pressures.

    Spend all day with the little holy terrors trying to teach them what they don’t want to learn while protecting them from idiots who want to harm them and dodging parents who think everything is the teacher’s fault. I used to think that was my dream job. Now, I’m glad my path went in another direction.

    “Meddling parents”? What?

    Parents SHOULD meddle. It’s their sons and daughters, they have a right to know what they’re being taught.
