The Thuglicans don’t WANT the government to be funded. They’re saying they want concessions, but you can tell by listening to them that they’re most excited about the shut down.

    Not really, KAL.

Kevin the Cowardly Speaker cannot get Republicans to agree on a budget and he is terrified at the prospect of working with the Other Party.

Maybe Republicans will replace Kevin with Republican hero George Santos, or whatever his name is.

The Republicans will negotiate as long as the Democrats are willing to eliminate Social Security and SNAP benefits. And don’t forget eliminating the 0% tax bracket, hitting about 100 million Americans with a tax increase that they can’t afford.

Well, the first step is the Republican led congress needs to make a budget to be voted on. Instead, they’ve been wasting time on theatrics and partisan politics, forgetting what their real job is.

I remember a quote from a rep on the right a few years back during a shutdown. When asked what he wanted he wasn’t sure but knew they wanted something.

Trump is calling for a shutdown. With so many charges and indictments, any chaos is good chaos I guess.

There is an opportunity here. The Republicans are even more dysfunctional than usual. McCarthy has a choice between trying to build a working majority that includes moderate Democrats or trying to work within his own party, who appear to consider staying in the spotlight more important that trying to prevent a shutdown. They haven’t backed him far enough into a corner yet for him to choose the first option, but that might not be far off.

I have NO illusions that this could lead to any sort of lasting changes in the relationship between the two parties, but a one shot advantage is better than nothing.

Cut the climate change money. Cut the WOKE money. Cut grant money on useless projects. Cut half of the congressional staffs. Cut the Czars. That would be a good start.

Umm… I think it’s clear that most republican reps would like to make a deal, but a few republican extremists want to shut down the government. If McCarthy would negotiate with Democrats he could probably get a deal both sides could live with, however republicans are afraid of their more extreme voters.

The balls are really in McCarthy’s court, but apparently, he doesn’t have any.

They both need a good spanking and sent to the corner. The 2024 elections can’t come soon enough. Then the people can vote these morons out and elect a new set of morons.

The democrats would willingly be a part of the process but the repugs don’t want their input. They would rather fight amongst themselves than actually do their jobs. Personally, I’m happy to see the repugs continue to erode their own chances in the 2024 elections. People have seen how they have failed to govern so much as one day since 2020.

    Nope. False equivalency.

It’s all Elephants in that room!

The breakdown is entirely on the side of the RWNJ Extreme MAGA Trumpublicans against the Conservative Real Republicans.

There is already a bipartisan agreement hashed out in the Senate.

However, the RWNJ Extreme MAGA Trumpublicans refuse to consider it because they refuse to entertain the possibility of any agreements with Democrats for any purpose whatsoever.

The reason the Government shuts down will be entirely on those RWNJ heads.

Unless the Democrats manage to make an agreement with some of the more reasonable Real Republicans to extend the budget.

Tuberville and his cohorts should be arrested and charged with sedition for eroding the military readiness. He belongs in some despotic sh*thole that denies rights to all except a few “men”.

The House has no real leadership and their Speaker can’t reign in the hard right who are determined to shut the government if democrats don’t give in to their terrorist demands yet again

Deconstructing the Regulatory State for the richest .01% is a war republicans have been winning for the last 40 years. I kinda hope this is the mother of all shutdowns, causing enough damage to discredit these MAGA morans once and for all.

Mr. McCarthy is wrong in thinking that everything that comes from the House has to come from the Republican party alone. There are many in his caucus who arrived in office with one thought in mind: break everything. They will not take “yes” for an answer. When one non-issue is finally resolved, another one suddenly takes its place.

The Senate may have its own plan, but the Constitution says that the budget starts in the House.

Mr. McCarthy is wrong to exclude Democrats. If he continues to try to make this a Republican-only affair, it’s over, mark my words. They will point fingers and shout and do nothing. They only have a few more “work” days available. And when the government shuts down, and our interest rates skyrocket as a result of our credit rating being downgraded, and our allies start to re-think their trust in our government’s ability to do anything, his party will be the one taking the blame, and will suffer in future elections.

On the other hand, he could work with Democrats and get a deal done. And then the crazies will demand an up-or-down vote on his job. But they don’t have the votes to expel him. The Dems don’t want him out. Of course he’s feckless and spineless and all kinds of -less. But who would the Republicans choose as a replacement (as if they could even agree to that!)? Whoever they choose, likely to be “no one”, will assuredly be no more worthy than Mr. McCarthy. But Mr. McCarthy is too stupid to realize his job is secure, and so will prostrate himself before the clowns and watch the government shut down.

    Sad!
