I still had a couple of decoders. I gave them to my grandson and showed him how to use them. Now I occasionally find messages between him and his best friend around the house and the shed where the slot car track is set up. Yeah, that was mine too. They think my old stuff is cool.

We had Japanese exchange students and they were asking if we had Sports Drink. While we were looking for Gatorade they found Japanese sports drink, Ovaltine.

Why is it called Ovaltine? The jar is round. The lid is round. Why don’t they call it Roundtine? — With a tip of the hat to Jerry Seinfeld.

Just a bit past the season for this one…

I remember the Ovaltine commercials from the old ‘Captain Midnight’ TV show. When it went into syndication the show changed its name to ‘Jet Jackson’ and lost the sponsorship. He flew a Douglas Skyrocket, which was an experimental plane with both a jet engine and a rocket engine. The Skyrocket was the first airplane to achieve Mach 2.0.

Well, considering it’s from aliens – they might be a few light years away which would explain the outdated message about Ovaltine.

As I recall from my misspent youth, Ovaltine was fairly nasty, worse than Quik. Hershey’s Instant Cocoa was the best, but it was also the most expensive. So we got stuck with Ovaltine.
