There a famous military maxim to the effect that no plan survives contact with the enemy. I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Bernice’s plan won’t survive contact with the, er, friend.

This is the saddest Luann strip in my memory. Bernice can only look at her life situations if she translates them into schoolwork.

The only reason I’d be sad if they break up is that we’d probably not see Nil again for a few years, if ever.

So does Nil beat her to the punch with a “Dear John” letter or does he create a piece of art which he will name the “break up” to convey his emotions to Bern? Nil seems to be a nice guy so it is kind of fortunate for him if Bern wants out, I think he might have been turned off about the way Bern dispatched him from Casa DeGroot a few weeks back as well as how Bern handled the fact that their make out sessions were being viewed by a bunch of geriatric voyeurs (which seemed to turn Nil on but embarrassed the heck out of self conscious Bern)!

Bernice is nuts. Nil adores her, and she is dumping him because making out with him turns her on? Good luck finding someone better for you than Nil, Bernice.

The question should be why break up? Nil has found how to trigger Bernice’s passion. Is that so bad? Bernice is so wound-up that she needs a trigger to awaken her passion. Rather than dumping Nil she should go out with him on buses, museums and parks to give her free reign for her libido.

Looking at Luann’s posture and expression, it seems that she’s telling to Bernice she’s a bigger weirdo than she has ever thought and a bigger looser as well. But maybe my dislike for Bernice is making me say that. I just really hope that Luann makes her understand she’s doing a very stupid thing. She’s asking Luann, who is also friends with Nil, what she thinks of her strategy? C’MON! Nil is a great guy, he sincerely loves Bernice and she’s the weird one of the couple, with all her complexes, needs and fears. Unfortunately, Bernice already has a history of stupid, unmotivated breakups since Zane… If Luann won’t be able to stop her, let’s hope her wild passion for Nil does! She needs to use her heart more and her brain less.

The really sad thing in all this is that she is SO PROUD of herself for setting all this up. Run for your life, Nil!!!!!

I’m not sure this is a lead-in to a breakup between Bern and Nil, but it is hilarious, I had a good reactive guffaw to the third panel myself. I think it’s just as likely a riff on Bernice’s quirky personality issues and trying to deal with the pressures of being a young adult. Knowing the penchant for surprises I’m going to wait and see what is going to happen. We should know more on transition day—Wednesday.

I can understand why Bernice wants to break up with Nil as they have nothing in common and the relationship is going nowhere. Most people wouldn’t keep dating someone they don’t have a lot on common with.

The PowerPoint presentation is over the top though and wouldn’t be the way to breakup with anyone if you cared about their feelings.

I am not sure why some people don’t like Bernice but as far as I can see, there are no perfect characters in the comic strip. That is what makes it interesting.

My roomie in college (pre-computers) got a love note from a girl. He corrected the vocabulary and sentence structure with red ink and returned it. She never spoke to him again.

Powerpoint in my experience is used almost entirely by dumb managers to organize information that should have been put in an email, so this is appropriate.

I would be sad if Bernice and Nil actually do break up. I like them both as a couple, and I think their respective quirks are mellowed a bit by each other.

..meanwhile, back at the ranch….. guess the quad will get along without us for a while. Nil is a visual artist, but very minimalistic, so I’m not sure he’ll appreciate this PowerPoint presentation. And I doubt she could get through it without wanting to kiss. We’ll see…

Maybe it’s a generational thing…my kids did a power point presentation on why we needed another cat. Also did a poster presentation on why they needed separate rooms when they were in grade school.

I think Bernie is too crazy for words. I think Nil is lucky to be away from her!
