As several commenters have already noted, the security guy is being a self-important twit. However, the area he “needs” to have cleared is outside near the street, as evidenced by the vehicle in panel 1. So Luann could invite the rest of the students back into the classroom (if the door didn’t lock behind them when they went outside) and next week we could see whether she gets any takers and, if so, what she comes up with for the class to do. Or maybe next week we’ll be off on some completely different arc. Stay ’tooned.
That “Security Gourd” is the joker from the infamous “monster truck” date from a few years ago. Old Barney Fife, harassed Luann and Jack, while Tara, who pretty much got them in trouble, was predictably, nowhere to be found.
Someone just tell this “rent-a-cop” that this is a “peaceful gathering” and that he has no right to tell them to disperse. And if he persists, someone should turn on the video on their phones and make this guy “famous” on tik-tok before They ban it.
And Tara?
Now that Lu’s been put in charge of the writing class, are you going to refer to her as a “Teach-A$$” like that time when time Luann was made a ‘teacher’s assistant’ a few years ago? ;-)
This reminds me of the time Clinger of MASH was given command of a cleaning task. His first command, “Ten minute break.” And all the nurses said, “Alright!”
Great way to end a story. Mrs Horner entrusted to the care of the doctors who reassure Luann and the entire class with a smile, plus everyone who sees Luann as a hero and not just as a talented writer. The optimism that Luann found in being a Bland Slate continues and makes her amazing. I’m kinda sad Luann didn’t go to the hospital with Mrs Horner. This means we’ll have to wait for her and Tara to go to the hospital for have them finally found Piro’s secret. Maybe his mother will be in the same room of Mrs Horner.
Most of the students would simply pack up and leave. And I imagine that after this, the college will tell Mrs. Horner she can’t teach any more. They can’t take the liability risk.
Love it! Luann was knowledgeable and confident under pressure and has no problem making a decision about class assignments. It’s nice to see her character being portrayed as such a kind, intelligent young woman.
On Sunday we will see her asking Frank what happened to his hair.
I think y’all are missing the point of this arc. Luann was thinking she was a blank slate to write something new. I hope this experience teaches her that she isn’t so blank. She has value and skills. She was good in this context and I hope she turns that into a direction for her life.
Barney Fife!! Lets remember Don Knotts though, he was a great talent I think. Anyway, this has been a long series of arcs surrounding Lu’s need to find herslf, with the great supporting characters providing a background. Branding! And I used to teach makerting and hope to offer some entreprenuerial and business education in a tiktok world, but I’m actually kind of a Marxist at heart (lol). Don’t worry, Marxist analysis makes one a critical management nerd, the system can never actually work. Always devolves into a version of Stalinism, OH SORRY NON POLITICAL HUMOR CARTOON! I like thesegue into usefulness she experiences here. I’m one who gets exhausted with all the dumb Luann stuff, or the clueless Bernice. Interesting Barney Fife is a supporting character in this arc, given his character’s chronid haplessness. Good work guys.
I didn’t/don’t miss Piro. Some of these stories drag on so long I lose track of which characters are/were in it. I like that the big guy appreciates Luann.
I have to say, I missed most of the week but Luann handled this all so well. Someone said something about her being in similar profession like EMT like Brad and Toni but I disagree. I just saw her be level-headed take charge when there was an emergency or someone needed something and apply sensible logic to the situation. I thought it was funny when she rattled off why she knew all this stuff to Vale and he said “you look so ordinary.” But then that’s true right, for most people these things don’t happen everyday but we may have had training and we just act based on what we’ve learned. Luann doesn’t see anything particularly special in what she’s doing because to her it’s just what’s supposed to happen. Others are astounded by her command, self-control, patience, and know how. I think Luann’s biggest problem w/ the future is most people’s biggest problem, we think that to be successful in life we have to do big great things when in fact most of us just try to do what’s right and expected. Luann can be anything she sets her mind to as long as she faces it with the attitude that she’s displaying in this situation, when she stops seeking validation and affirmation it will find her naturally.
We’ve seen the “I’m in charge” guy before. In late October 2018, he was the twerp security guard at the monster truck show who declared Luann, Tara and Jack to be “rowdies.” As I noted then, though he’s not in the military (ex-military maybe), there are plenty of guys like him in the service.

Mrs. Horner heading off to the Hospital to get check out, and she put Luann in charge as this arc comes to a close.

I’m shocked, SHOCKED that this is not a dream. And also very relieved because unless telegraphed in advance, dream sequences are a @#$% tease.

Has Piro dropped out of this class to avoid Luann and Tara? He wasn’t in any of the panels featuring the students?
Willow Mt Lyon 10 months ago
Wow! Who does he think he is? Let the class get their stuff and stop yelling at them. They aren’t in the second grade.

Blech! This is so self-serving from the writers!

I’m happy it wasn’t a dream. Luann will definitely be inspired from her experience.

All right! Real after all! I was disheartened there for a bit. This is a very uplifting arc—thanks, G&K!

Why does barney need the area clear? I understand that might have been important while the ambulance was there but there’s nothing to see here
