Bernice looks like an old lady.

So the story isn’t about getting out of the house and meeting new people but rather what a horrible idea it is to ever leave the house. How boring.

Lily was fictional, while our girls are… wait a minute. I have to think this out.

Luann has always been a plain girl. Since she has dressed up to the nines, I see her pretty mother in her. A blond version of her mother. She should wear her that way.

I like the background. It is almost..romantic.

Um, girls? Borrow a wagon from Shannon?

The real world doesn’t intrude into romance novels, or social media posts.

It’s just gentle humor about the gap between what we imagine and what can really happen. If that was a Regency romance, Lily probably lives in England, where summers are (or were) not as hot as in some parts of the U.S. People who don’t like Bernice will always say that she looks bad or is bad, no matter what she does. She put on a cute, picnic appropriate outfit. Luann’s makeup will probably melt. It’s nice to see them doing something fun and different together. And it’s creepy when commenters slaver over the drawn body and features of a cartoon 19-teen-year-old who still lives with her parents and best friend from elementary school.

Maybe another year before they can picnic with beer. I’m glad cigarettes are no longer the main social link – beer not maybe as harmful.

It will be tiring, but, unlike Lily, they have a car to go to the park. The sky is cloudy, but it will probably be a beautiful day. I hope they’ll have fun, but I wonder if the problem could come from their conversations. Maybe some uncomfortable topics will come up? Or they will meet Jack and Nil and it will be like the painting “Le déjeuner sur l’herbe” by Manet, plus Puddles.

I’m thinking this is one of those times where the fantasy is better than the reality.

Maybe that’s because Lily didn’t pack any of her essentials.

Luann will be lucky if she is not arrested.

I don’t think “Lilly” had cooler. What are they thinking?? All they needed was a blanket, a little bit of lunch and some water. I’m afraid that going to the park together, dressed the way they are, is going to send the entirely wrong message to their intended audience.

And somebody PLEASE tell Greg that women do not grow thick lips by simply putting on lipstick! He needs to decide if Luann has lips or not and stick with it. Every time he puts lipstick on her, his drawing loses it’s continuity because he shows her with all of a sudden thick lips.

What’s wrong with jeans or shorts and a t-shirt, especially in the summer heat? And, Luann, lose the make up. Bernice, it’s 2024, not 1975. And, if you’re going to a park, where is Puddles?

I like how their idea of “romance novel life” is based entirely on the cover images, not at all about the stories within.

As a wise man once said, “reality is often disappointing.” Also, I wish Luann appeared more nowadays because she is the protagonist, after all!

I’ve heard that being beautiful ishard work. Guess lugging those supplies to aidin that aura counts.

Well, I was wrong yesterday, they actually DID get out the front door!

This reminds me of my early days of traveling with small children. I would pack at least that much, then suffer while carrying it. The amount of luggage shrank rapidly as my sore muscles out-competed the desire to be prepared for everything.

Real life is never as “perfect” as a romance novel. But, the important thing to do is LIVE—-even with its imperfections, a real life lived with sweat and bees and smudged makeup and sunburn is so much better and more fulfilling than blandly living vicariously through the pages of a romance novel. Get out there and make it happen, Girls!!!!!! Seize the day!!!!!

This arc starring Luann and Bernice is FUN and quite funny.

Hopefully, the main reason these two are going to the park is to enjoy each other’s company over a picnic. Neither of their outfits is likely to induce any romance prospects, and they can’t even play with Puddles dressed as they are.

Looks like they will drive someplace, so maybe not the dog park which I thought was within walking distance. The light bulb went on in Bern’s mind when she realized (I think) that in reading so many romance novels she’s been living vicariously through all these fictitious characters, maybe as a substitute for making out with Nil which she no longer does.

Bernice, put on some clothes. What? She is wearing clothes? Well, tell her to put on some more clothes. She looks like crap.

Khan’s dress does not look like something that you would wear on a picnic, nor A three hour island tour, but that’s another tale.
