The Star Trek series “Enterprise” had a sub-plot where Vulcan High Command was very reluctant to share advanced technologies with Terrans. More because of uncertainty of human emotions and savage human history than racial characteristics. It appears that while H. Sapiens may likely eventually share much of the same physical features. The wonton destruction of climate/environment, coupled by ignorance and primate behavior, will guarantee the “Trek to the Stars” will never happen. Most probably Civilization will collapse and much of the world population will perish in the process.

When ‘white’ people… no, wait – when ‘red’ people… hold on – ‘black’ people and ‘asian’ people… – what I mean is when the Mother is Jewish and the Father is Brazilian the children will be,,, wait just a second now —

This here game is rigged! No matter who we mate with here, we gonna end up with human beings as our children.

In the 24th century, Mr. Spock was accused of ‘half breed’ interference by a fake Capt. Kirk

Spock saves the day, knowing instantly that no 24th century earthling would think like that. Our genes must be mixed. Inbreeding & genetic stagnation would be the death of us all.

If all of the Black, Hispanic, Asian, and whatever “other” group all magically disappeared, the Republicans would find some other criterion to divide people; it’s their nature.

Also, remember that many of the problems in the world, from the Middle East to Africa to Asia can easily be traced back to the Western European (Yeah, THAT sacred Western Civilization), notion that Europeans are so much better and more advanced than anybody else so that they can impose their values and government on people who live and think differently.

i was once corrected by a gentleman from the Winnebago Tribe when i used the phrase “full-blooded” when refering to someone i knew from the Crees. i was told that since colonisation, few if any First Nation folks were “full-blooded.” i defer to his definition.

IIRC, in Ursula K. Le Guin’s “The Lathe of Heaven”, the protagonist drempt of creating peace on Earth by turning everyone grey.

Basically, all humans are mongrels. No one is “full- (or pure-) blooded” anything.

That whole blood-quantum thing depends on long-exploded notions of inheritance. Inheritance from biological parents is via genetic material, not “blood”; and (barring chromosomal damage) no one gets exactly one-quarter from each grandparent, since the number of chromosomes in a normal human cell is not an integral multiple of four. (And if we count mitochondrial DNA, it’s not even 50-50 between the two parents.)

I think that in Star Trek lore there was some vast nuclear holocaust set before the original series which slaughtered a huge number of people.

Insidious. However, I cannot help but note that the whole idea of “race” is a fiction. There is no legitimate biological basis for it.

Time Magazine, Fall 1993 The New Face of America makes your point Marty. The woman’s picture on the cover is beautiful but not real as it is a computer-generated composite of all of the races making up our country. I bought a number of these for my sociology students, and they became obsessed with the possibilities the articles presented, the primary one being the possible elimination of race-based politics. I highly recommend everyone reading it if you can find a copy. It definitely needs to go into reprint and updated for our times. And no, you can’t have mine. It’s the only one I have left. I wonder if it is possible to post the articles without being sued into oblivion?

Up here that might describe Metis although I always attributed that to les Voyagers messing with the local ladies. My Irish ancestry seems to have some Viking blood, messing around with the Cork barmaid some 1500 years back, only fair I guess, my direct ancestor fought for William Wallace and settled in Scotland (land of the Irish) and messed with the lassies

Native Tribes have sovereign nation status within the U.S. The sovereign nation has the right to determine who is and who is not a citizen in their nation, not a foreign ‘federal’ government.

Interesting. Going by “bloodlines” is a departure from how Native Americans used to behave. Historically, Native Americans adopted peoples from other tribes or races to replace those lost to illness or war. They didn’t care about your bloodline, they cared about your commitment to the tribe. Some of these people became important members of the tribe and even leaders.

Migration is a human trait. The closest to pure humans vs human neanderthal/denisovans can only be found in some indigenous tribes in Africa. Yeah, modern humans came from Africa, get over it racists.

When humans migrate they mix along the way. It’s OK. No one is being replaced, though some have made a habit of stealing and wiping out as much trace of those that lived on the land before them.

One of many graves that was robbed, but one of the few that the stones weren’t also taken in the Millstone Bluff area in Shawnee National Forest. Can you imagine if someone decided to dig up the graveyard(s) your relatives are buried in?

Not my photo, but I do have one much like it.

There is an article in the New York Times today, about two men who had been switched at birth. One was born to Ukrainian parents and the other to a Metis (Canadian version of mixed race) mother. They didn’t find out until they were 67 and had no idea. To me it just highlights the whole issue of race, culture and nature vs nurture.

Basically, you are who you were brought up to be.

Native Peoples are independent nations. Independent nations should be allowed to decide who is a part of their nation and who is not.

It has occurred to me that as a rule, humans are brown. It ranges from a very few really coal-black folks through dark brown to various tints of light brown. The pinkish-white folks are outliers. Not long ago, some pinkish-white folks told themselves — and everyone else — that the light color was a accompanied by divine favor. I don’t think that was so — they just had better weaponry at the moment than most darker folks did. (I mean, look at yourself: if you’re old like me, you might best be described as brown-spotted yellowy pink.)
