Soldier: I want to fight for my country, and would lay down my life to protect the freedoms we Americans hold dear.
Elephant: Tsk. You gays & your liberal agenda...
Bruce, what’s a “typical” gay guy? It might be a “typical” soldier, though, gay or straight. At least the type we’d WANT joining up, rather than the ones who just want to kill commies/Muslims/whoever the target du jour is…
There always have been (and always will be) gays in the military. The only question is whether a soldier who is otherwise acceptable (and in some cases exceptional) should be expelled simply because he (or she) is homosexual.
I don’t even know why there’s a need for a timetable to “phase out” DA/DT. Any expulsion proceedings currently pending should be dropped. No more should be initiated. Anyone who’s been expelled under DA/DT should be allowed to reenlist (with their seniority intact). What’s there to phase?
Sorry, Bruce. I missed the sarcasm completely; rather, I got the sarcastic tone, but saw it facing the other way. There have been posts elsewhere along the lines of “your typical gay guy would never be able to cut it in the military” or “your typical gay guy would never want to join the military”, as if all homosexuals are pencil-neck sissies and all heterosexuals are strapping he-men.
Even though I’m straight, I still find this cartoon offensive. What does sexual orientation have to do with military duty? If fellow comrades feel uncomfortable having a gay bunking with them in the same cabin, that is the only part of this that I can understand (after all, guys and gals have their own, don’t they, to keep from heing and sheing?).

<=====We don’t need gays. We have all the skin heads, criminals, and ignoramuses we need to keep the peace.

Let’s cut their VA benefits while we’re at it… just like George W. Bush did.
The US is way beyond strange.

Every politician should make a public statement: What is your higher priority? Fighting terrorism or fighting gays. You can’t have both.
