US politics always used martial metaphors…from the days of George Washington todate. History buffs know that, but
maybe a lot of Americans today do not have that knowledge.
the 2nd Amendment was to give the same rights to all future US citizens that the Minute Men and the original Revolutionaries exercised when the (English) government became too oppressive….in organized and reasoned action.
No US law gives rights to gun ownership to mentally unstable persons…apparently the gunman’s record in high school and college was ignored by authorities who should have tried to get help for Loughner…or at least pushed to get him judged as unstable to prevent his legally buying his weapon and ammo.
the facts coming to light show the gunman was into Marxism and the Occult and frightened classmates and teachers….he was not a “product of the rightwing”….he was on the radical extreme LEFT. Yet the Leftists in positions of advantage are working overtime to pin the blame on those in the Rightwing….hoping for a legal GAG law…also hoping for anti-gun legislation. Shameless opportunists, building an agenda on 6 bodies in Tucson!
^ Nobbody said ONLY hate rhetoric could influence assassins. But there were those “wanted for treason” mugshots of Kennedy in Dallas before his assassination.
What happened should have raised questions about what’s wrong with politics in the country. Instead, it’s being turned into more mud to sling.
The country is doomed from within and will be part of history’s dead civiliations along with Athens, the second Reich, Louis 14’s France, Rome and victorian England in a matter of years.
No, disgusted, he was a paranoid schizophrenic whose reading list was designed to show how he was smarter than everyone else and rebellious. He had no clearly defined politics, he was a nut.
By the way, he was told he could not return to college without a mental health examination, so there was some effort made. Forcing him into healthcare would be “socialized medicine,” right?
So claiming he is on the “radical extreme LEFT” is as pointless as saying he was armed by Sarah Palin.
But there is a real point regarding the tolerance of armed violence in this country, and using the imagery as a matter of course.
By the way, the “shameless opportunists” are on the Right as well - Rush has actively blamed the Democrats for this, and Glenn Beck has issued another self-aggrandizing and paranoid statement for Sarah Palin to get herself protection.
I’m sorry, but it is impossible to separate the events of Tucson from the rabid rhetoric, overwhelmingly from “right-wing” pundits like Limbaugh, Beck, Palin, Coulter, the quotes in the ‘toon are “theirs”. Even reviewing Olbermann at his most virulent, you find HIM citing actual facts, and referring to LEGAL redress, not “lock and load”.

mdavis, you’re grasping at straws. Go back and read up on the right-wing, conspiracy-theory websites Loughner posted at.

^ From the clips I saw on the news last night, none of them were coherent as being from any real persuasion…
“How can you have democracy without grammar?” What does that even mean?

Why is it that the 2nd amendment has to change because of nutjobs…why not all of them? There’s the rub.
