The 2 six-shooters get him the NRA vote, the hat, boots and spurs the cowboy vote, the Bolo tie the christian vote, the belt buckle the “Don’t Mess With Texas” vote, and the mug shot the women’s vote. He might stand a chance if he doesn’t say something really stupid…we’ll see. Ride ’em cowboy!
Y’all are giving way too much credit to the “Super Congress” the deals in place already. Basically cuts to services that go to the poor and cuts to Defense (cause the Rich are anyway not gonna make too much money in Defense unless the next Republican President starts up another War.. The Super Congress is a joke cause either it will cave to what the Republican want or see more poor people suffer (let the next Hostage negotiations begin)
Our three costliest and longest lasting wars were started by “Texans”- Viet Nam, Iraq ’91, Afghanistan, and Iraq (still, and just a continuation of ’91). One Democrat, two Republicans. There IS a connection that Texans rely more on “force” rather than “power”. Power, that does NOT DEPEND on military strength or violence, is far more powerful than “force” which does. Power requires intellect, persuasion, and lasting strength. Force is violent, and less effective in the long term- always. Look also where Rummy and Cheney have their affiliation.
Our real national problems today do not come so much from either political party as they do from that “Texas” and “old west” attitude, which is also quite false if real history is studied, that mandates “might makes right”- in the “violence” mode.
Gandhi, for one, proved that real power does NOT come from ever-lasting violence, but intellect- and that is where Perry is totally lacking. Bravado is not always courage, especially the kind that truly “wins”.
Neither Reagan nor either Bush made smug ignorance and denial of science a major plank in their platforms. Nor did they stage a prayer rally sponsored by a known hate group.
Ironically, Gov. Perry’s pray-in for rain from early this year is a textbook study in how prayer Just. Doesn’t. Work.
Now I know who he reminds me of ….it was one of those evangelical creationists who used to appear on TV many years ago…can’t remember his name. Wore a flannel shirt while sitting at a table in a camphouse setting. He talked in a slow drawl and the women swooned and believed every ignorant word he said…..including my last wife.
@ churchillwasright. You misunderstand the cartoon. The point is, Perry is a swaggering buffoon and 2/3s of Republicans are clueless twits. (That’s the cartoon. I’m not saying I agree, but I’m also not saying it isn’t true.)
silly zit; of course we did. Looking past the propaganda, he’s better than any Republican President since Ike. But you probably can’t see past the propaganda.

Did some more checking on Perry……he’s toast. He either failed science in school, or he skipped class.

BTW, “churchillwasright” Churchill never said that. You too seem to believe everything in the emails sent to you by someone with the same prejudices.

Perry’s problem is his ‘religiousity’.
