How bad is it? Distracted and poorly informed citizens rarely read past the headlines anymore. They then opine to pollsters on topics they know little about. Those polls are followed by politicians to make laws and write bills (that are also not read). Those laws and bills become new fodder for the media and generate new headlines.

I stopped reading letters to the editor years ago because so few readers had any idea at all of what the heck they were talking about. The same, sadly, applies to a lot of editors…….

Doc Smith? My dad had the original magazine publications of the Lensmen series. Great reading when you’re twelve — but I tried to read one a couple of years ago and it had lost its appeal. What about John Carter?
