Oh, this is good! As apt a description of what is wrong with democracy, when rampant capitalism gets hold of it.

“By the frame of the Government under which we live this same people have wisely given their public servants but little power for mischief, and have with equal wisdom provided for the return of that little to their own hands at very short intervals. While the people retain their virtue and vigilance no Administration by any extreme of wickedness or folly can very seriously injure the Government in the short space of four years.” — A. Lincoln

We don’t leave in a Democracy and I can prove it.

Wisconsin voters voted for Democratic Candidates 53% to 46% Repubs The result Repubs won 64% of the state house seats.

Hillary won by more than 4 million votes.

Biden won by more than 7 million votes yet the election came down to less than 50k votes in two states.

The Supreme curt has 4 seats selected by the guy tat LOST the popular vote

Twelve percent of the population controls 60% of the senate vote.Puerto Rico has more population than 23 states, why don’t they have two senators?

Cites in this country in have more population than N Dakota S Dakota Montana Wyoming and Alaska COMBINED

We live in a theocracy where the Evangelists get to spread their beliefs as the word of God. and opposing them is somehow a crime and a sin. They get to carry weapons and intimidate people to that end.

We can be tanksful that we didn’t become a full fledged Fascist state BY A MARGIN OF 50 THOUSAND VOTES.

Come down to Texas where block by block gerrymandered districts have been drawn for the last 10 years and will soon be refined to remain heavily disproportionate for the next 10 years. Our state leaders have and, no surprise, will continue to forbid voter driven ballot initiatives. Also, Robert’s SCOTUS won’t touch politically drawn district maps thus leaving minority voters without legal recourse or a proportional voice in legislation. Mr. Lincoln underestimated the corrupting power of power and the Constitution’s ability to prevent it.

Everything in this toon except the grim reaper who has singlehandedly brought the greatest debate club in history to a complete halt. If only Amy had taken him out. Maybe a recount? (s)

On the hill? Seriously? That place is called “foggy bottom” for a perfectly real reason (not to mention the metaphor). DC was built on land ceded by Maryland and Virginia, and they chose the land they had the LEAST use for. Yes, it’s called “Capitol Hill” but its elevation is 79 feet above sea level (The White House is at 59 feet, so it’s a 20 foot hill)

A perfect representation of where we are in our democracy. I wish every Senator and Congress Person would see this so they would know how most (I suspect) of us feel.

We should do it the Australian way: Make voting mandatory, voting day a day off, no political adverts for many weeks before the election, and let me add to that – abolish the electoral college.

Gerrymandering comes from the name of Elbridge Gerry. He created the 1st gerrymandered congressional district. I believe he was governor of Massachusetts at the time.

The “mander” part of the name is because a journalist thought the redrawn district looked like a salamander.
