These “Evangelists” which the U.S. government tolerates (as long as they make “contributions”) ARE NOT PART OF ANY LEGITIMATE religion. They, Billy Graham included, are merely successful hustlers who made it big. They get the tax breaks, live large, and always get their “congregations” to pony up some more! No one ever went broke peddling God or sex.
If Jesus were to come back and become a candidate, he would be running on healing the sick, caring for the poor, feeding the hungry, for equal rights & against capital punishment. Therefore….he’d be totally unacceptable to the Christian right.
Aaaand that’s exactly how “Christian” nationalists do it! Ignore Jesus’ teachings completely. They worship the State (and themselves) before God.
And Christians wonder why so many people are leaving the church or never joining any religious institution. It’s the unbridled hypocrisy of the lunatic non-Christian “Christians.”
I keep wondering just exactly what “definition” of “religion” allows a hate group to be allowed to register as a religious organization. The definition must be tremendously loose and exceedingly broad. Either that or the Internal Revenue Service is loaded with a bunch of “flakes” that can’t be bothered with defining anything substantive.
Belief in a “Higher Power” does NOT mean accepting Trump as your leader.
While I appreciate the effort, it would have had more impact and been truer to history if your depiction of Jesus didn’t conform to the white European model foisted upon the world during the Renaissance.

Second thought: I am NOT referring to Christ, in Wuerker’s toon, as one of these “Evangelists”.

I think the New Testament would have a lot of edits if he came now.

I have only one belief: that there is no belief or idea that is more important than being a caring and loving human being.

These so-called “christians” would be the first ones to string Christ up if he came back again.

The white christian nationalists like their own “cafeteria” religion — pick the scriptures you like, ignore the rest.
