$842 billion. $69 billion more than the $773 billion the department requested for Fiscal Year 2023. Not enough, apparently, for tax-and-spend Republicans.
As opposed to the GOP’s philosophy of starting 2 major wars in the last 22 years and costing the nation trillions, increasing the deficits astronomically, increasing the national debt, and depleting the military in terms of matériels and personnel, all of which will only be paid back by people not born yet.
Spending more money in defense than the next nine countries combined, the Pentagon fails its audit for the fifth straight time, and anti-deficit conservatives cry, “Not enough!”
Conservatives need to make up their minds is it America First (avoiding regional conflicts) or should we be Don Quixote World’s policeman and all the military equipment that requires us to intervene in every conflict.
Reagan took the deficit from 70 billion to 175 billion.
Bush 41 took it to 300 billion.
Clinton got it to zero.
Bush 43 took it from 0 to 1.2 trillion.
Obama halved it to 600 billion.
Trump got it back to a trillion.
Biden reduced it $350 billion his first year in office. And the budget office expects to see it drop by another 1 trillion, 500 billion dollars – the largest drop ever. This is despite a $1.9 Trillion pandemic relief package. The Republicans screamed about this at the time, but it is credited with funding a faster recovery than anywhere else in the world, and actually decreasing the debt further.
I’m sure the liberal communist democrats will rant about this truth. They hate it when they can’t defend themselves…..which is most of the time. I’m sure they are so proud of their so-called leader. He is an embarrassment to himself and this Country. Other world leaders like to be around him just for laughs. Personally, I feel sorry for him. We all will be old and decrepit some day, if we live that long. Unfortunately, the why things are going, none of us probably will.
I remember the infamous (and fictitious) “missile gap”. Also the fact that a good part of Saint Ronnie’s heroic “defense buildup” was already in the pipeline when Pres. Carter left office.
What is Ramrez smoking with this toon? The American Defense budget is more than all the rest of the world ’s combined defense budgets and he thinks it is a pittance? The man is a delusional ideologue.
Republicans complain about democrats’ budget but still refuse to show theirs. They plan to wait until the last minute and blame democrats for not passing it unread.
You have GOT to be kidding. The Pentagon budget is not only HUUUUUGE!, at $858 billion for 2023, it’s increased $180 billion in just 3 years. And that probably doesn’t even include the $100+ billion spent on the Ukraine war.
Mr. Ramirez, Congress writes the Defense appropriation check, not Biden. Congress holds the nation’s purse—for better or worse, surplus or debt, protection or pork. US Civics 101 we were supposed to learn in middle school.
One of the biggest waste is any group of military that gets a budget, has to spend all of the budget financed, or they will not get the same next year. Now the feds go it one better, what did you spend in 2022, or 2022 plus 10% or more. No wonder the feds keep growing with all that cash to spend.

Ask the military what they have done with the truckloads of cash they have already been given? Those top gun movie footage must have cost a few bucks.

Less than one percent of our budget goes to foreign aid. It’s easy to get confused looking at all those zeros, though. I get it. But facts is facts.
