Because petroleum is an international commodity. The USA imports as much oil as they export. If Europe will pay more for Texan oil, that’s who they will sell it to. If Russian oil is cheaper than Texan oil, that’s who refineries will buy from.
That’s capitalism, baby.
Speaking of eggs, those Ukrainian painted eggs are wonderful. The tradition is called pysanky — the beautiful painted Easter eggs that were originally created to bless every part of life in Ukraine as talismans of prosperity, fertility, healing and protection, long life and bounty. Here’s a 3 minute video of how they are made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dffnbXAIVrQ
Biden helping his buddy, Putin, by buying Russian oil!
What is stupid is this toon and the guy that posted right before me.
It’s not as if it’s an on/off switch, but US has been importing less Russian during Biden’s admin, and has reached far below where it was during the previous administration.
Here’s a chart of Russian oil imports into the U.S.:
And contrary to what, perhaps, Mr. Lester is implying, there is widespread bi-partisan support to end the imports of Russian oil, which has been supplied to refineries because of its high sulfur content.
But hey, if you want to use the “logic” of Mr. Lester’s argument, that buying “eggs” from Russia is Stupid and most of the Russian eggs were purchased and contracted during the tЯц☭p administration, then…
The only “stupid” I see is Lester’s attempt at humor … and his connection to reality.
The worlds petroleum exchange is an exceedingly complex market that I doubt anyone here fully understands. It’s why whenever President Trump referred to it he used terms like a ‘net’ oil exporting nation. Yet at the time we were exporting oil we were also importing it. This is true today although we’re a ‘net’ importing nation. This is a simplification but essentially we have hundreds of companies, refineries and individuals buying and selling on the world market and speculating on futures. As far as stopping the importation of oil from Russia, I think Biden will get there eventually. But, hoo boy, I have no clue as how to disentangle one nations oil products from the rest of the world. It’s not like there’s one central figure or the government doing all the trading in that regard.
That said many of our petroleum industry corporations have recently divested themselves from doing business with Russia. Also I’ve seen where certain shipping lines have said they will no longer transport Russian petroleum products and insurer’s have said they will no longer carry such ships or will raise the coverages to prohibitive levels.
Almost appears that Lester like to imitate the behavior of ‘spooked’ chimpanzees….
Open pipeline(s) and fracking vs. quidproJoe sponsoring Putin’s war $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
The same applies to U.S. buying Russian oil!
