Today’s right-wing Talibangelical Theocratic Republican of Gilead is a death cult and Donald Trump, the least pious president in this nation’s history, is their messianic prophet. They want to hurry, hurry, hurry to usher in the end times, the rapture, the destruction of the world and a blissful eternity of plucking harps on their clouds with an eternal earworm from the Hallelujah Chorus.
No protection of school children, church-goers, shoppers or patrons of movies, concerts or nightclubs, from the epidemic of mass casualty gun genocide.
No protection of basic rights for women to control their own bodies and their own destinies. Prior to the widespread availability of contraception and abortion, both of which are now on the chopping block, women were at a distinct competitive disadvantage in the workplace. Religious conservatives want to return us to the days when women were relegated to the role of brood mares — Samuel Alito’s opinions, both draft and final, made clear his intent that the purpose of women is to provide a supply chain for the “domestic supply of infants … available to be adopted.”
No protection from the looming climate and environmental disaster. They want the world to end. They want to usher in the “end times.”
No protection from those who wish to eliminate the “wall of separation between church and state.” Somehow I doubt their rulings in the school tuition case or the prayer at school events case would have been the same if we were talking about Muslim, Wiccan or Satanic schools or public prayers. They do not want freedom of religion, they want the power to impose their religious opinions and superstitions on the rest of us.
My husband and I have decided we may have lived too long. We’re in our 70s…we were idealistic in our 20s and for most of our lives. I wish we could have gone without seeing/living with what is going on now. Signed, a hippy girl and a Vietnam vet.
I think they would have to move further left to be considered “conservative”
SCOTUS just became SCHTUPPUS
Good boys and girl! You all finished the assignment. Now, show of hands, please … who wants ice cream?
Unfortunately, and as much as I disagree with the decisions made by the Supreme Court, the reality is that the Supreme Court is the only branch of government doing its job. They were not created to legislate or implement policy from the bench. Congress continues to fail at doing its job. For over a century, they’ve pushed responsibility of governing to the Executive branch and the Supreme Court. This has led to career politicians whose primary goal is to get re-elected so they can score the bigger paycheck.
Congress and the people who occupy it are the problem. They fail to perform even their most basic responsibilities. That’s given us demagogues as POTUS and a Supreme Court who have used the bench to implement politically driven policy.
It’s time to reform everything. Term limits for Senators and Representatives, better definition of the POTUS’s responsibilities, and age/term limits for SC justices.
This country is slowly developing into an example of how “democracy” fails. We may not survive Trump. We most definitely will not survive another Trump who’s learned from the first’s mistakes.
And the irony is that majorities of Americans don’t support most of this crap. It’s the PRIMARIES, stupid.
May they all burn in that h-e-double hockey sticks in which they so fervently believe.
The profound religious ignorance guiding these conservatives is alarming.
This is Not a Conservative court, it’s become a Regressive court.
The Court is now the symbol of an America riven between meeting the tidal changes taking place nationally and internationally or desperately turning the clock back to a mythical past. History shows the latter effort always fails, and often at great cost.
reactionary court — Conservatives follow precedents.
“You chuck it on that one, you chuck it on this one /You chuck it on your mother and you / chuck it on your father / You chuck it on your brother and you chuck it on your sister / You chuck it on that one and you chuck it on me
Bad boys, bad boys / Whatcha gonna do? / Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?" Inner Circle: – 1987.
Griswold, Miranda, Brown, and Loving are still on their agenda.
“Death to America” used to be something you heard Middle East extremists shouting. Now, it is the motto of the Supreme Court.
Did anybody in congress check their credentials before voting for their appointment?
We all saw how Ketanji Brown Jackson was treated during her conformation hearing. The Republicans called her by every nasty name they could, some came close to using the “N” word. If that doesn’t persuade voters to vote out every Republican candidate in the U.S.A., nothing will.
I’m beginning to think the entire republican party and the regressive SCOTUS are Russian agents. They might as well be.
Hope is looking up, wish we had one or two more like them.
Time to take off the gloves and hat
Next they are overriding the election system, There is a theory being pushed by some one the court called “independent state legislature doctrine” where they want state judges redistricting the state and overriding state election commissions and Secretary of States that certify election results.
EPA are appointed bureaucrats. They don`t have the power to make laws.
Jeer to Moscow Mitch and Putin’s b***h.
So they are gutting the EPA? Well, as we used to say in LA when I was a kid: “I like to SEE the air I breathe!” Actually that was Firesign Theatre but it was still true—you could see it.
Is this the tyranny we were warned about?
Mike does a pretty good job with his caricatures. I can easily name them from his drawings. A+
Despite being in the minority, members of the SCOTUS, “Conservatives,” RWNJs, and white supremacists are attempting to drag this country back to their imaginary Jeffersonian agrarian idyl. The 1790 census (when Jefferson was Secretary of State), counted 5.3M Americans. Only white males owning 50 acres or more of land were permitted to vote, approximately 6% of the population. Free white men who did not own land, free white females, and slaves could not vote. In 1790 the American population was largely rural, making a living by farming. Our most recent census counted 332,403,650 Americans. Current estimates are that 83% of Americans live in urban areas. They do not work at farming. In pursuit of “small government,” the following are conservatives’ goals for their Jeffersonian America: 1. No women’s rights. 2. No civil rights for people of color, or for any other minority groups. 3. No immigration, other than Caucasians. 4. No labor unions. 5. No health insurance. 6. No legal recourse due to Republican-packed courts. 7. No social security. 8. No disability insurance. 9. No minimum wage. 10. No free and fair elections (ultimately, no elections). 11. Imposed state religion; government funding of religious schools. 12. Unregulated militias unchecked by Republican-packed courts. 13. No work on mitigating climate change; no environmental protections. 14. No free press. GOP politicians don’t care about the environment or mitigating climate change because they intend to stay permanently in office and use their money and power to take over remaining livable locations as environmental conditions worsen. Why do you people who support today’s GOP, Trump, and Trump wannabes think that you will come out winners under this regime?
Quite a month we’ve had. All while Brandon, Nancy, and Chuck were steering the ship.
If Moscow Mitch and his fellow members of the Godawful Obsolete Party had not decided to betray their oaths of office (in other words, had they not decided to betray their country ), and had they confirmed Obama’s nominee, the recent idiotic decisions of the Court would’ve been 5-4 instead of 6-3 (assuming that Traitor Trump had won in 2016 and nominated two Injustices instead of three).
These Supreme Beings have made Yertle Mcconman’s life work come true.
I don’t believe that anyone who wants to impose his/her beliefs and moral values on others, is a true Christian.
“Can’t tell my future, and I can’t tell my past. Lord, it seems like every minute, sure gonna be my last.”— Willie Brown, “Future Blues”
Repubicans are against activist judges, except when it’s THEIR activist judges.
Mike forgot to put a beer mug in Kav’s hand and a Coke can with a pube in Thomas’.
Americans are just supposed to be preparing for the second coming of Jesus. Not for any future
Please do not feed the trolls.
Mitch McConnell’s legacy can arguably be considered to be far more destructive to the United States and the world than the “Idiot with a pen” he supported.
May his grave be a future public vomitorium and Foricae. But that won’t happen. Magas will put him in a Lenin’s-Tomb environment for future Schutzstaffel cadets to guard.
