If studying history does not make you uncomfortable at times (and, on balance, proud at other times), then what you’re “studying” is neither history nor study. History needs to be taught in its comprehensive entirety, from all perspectives, not just cherry-picked to be all roses and sunshine.
Imagine being so ashamed of one’s history that they need to outlaw teaching it honestly to their children.
Conservative “news” organizations are afraid to deliver the honest, complete real news (and they know they are being dishonest as revealed in the email, text and other messages they share privately among themselves).
Conservative states are afraid to teach honest, complete history (or even science, for that matter).
I guess the people who screamed obscenities and threw rocks at little Ruby Bridges in New Orleans (who was FIVE years old and trying to go to kindergarten) and the Arkansas Nine trying to integrate Little Rock’s Central High School don’t want their grandchildren to be taught that they screamed obscenities and threw rocks at little Ruby Bridges and the Arkansas Nine.
I guess the people who wrap themselves in the battle flag of the failed Confederacy — a flag that was extant for fewer than five years — don’t want their grandchildren to be taught what that flag really stood for.
