I’ve experienced the same thing with my grandson’s friends, six Kieran’s of various spellings a few Jaden’s and a few Liam’s for variety.

In third grade there were 6 Jims. I don’t think anyone calls their kids Jim (James, Jimmy) anymore

With all the “cute” way of spelling applied to names these days, I sometimes tell people, “My name is ‘Mike’, spelled R I C H”.

When I was working as a receptionist, I learned to ask everyone how they spelled their name.

Obviously we need a CGUID (currently globally unique identifier) like THX1138.

Of course there’s always “Pat”, but that name comes with its own issues.

If you don’t spell it the same as what’s on the tiny license plates or key chains they sell at the roadside truck stops, you’re spelling it wrong.

Smeagol is spelled as Smeagol, same with Gollum. My real name however can be English, Latin or French. The complete Latin one is very long since it has a Saint’s name first then my name, my last name, my mom’s last name, her mom’s and my dad’s last name and in the end Junior lol kidding about the Junior.

For what it’s worth, the Irish spelling is Cáitlín. The Irish pronunciation varies from region to region within Ireland, but I haven’t heard any those pronunciations in the US, regardless of the the person spells it. The “c” is more of a “k” and the “a” is soft.

And don’t get me started about St. Patty’s day.

Everyone wants their child to have a unique name. No problem with that until they get upset because people spell it wrong or mispronounce it when they read it.
