Home of the free and very well armed. Best to stand or you may be shot by a freedom lover on his way to vote for Trump while listening to Ailes/Limbaugh bullshit.

No, it’s not mandatory. Government can’t tell him to do it and his team apparently won’t. But we’re also free. Free to laugh at him and call him an ungrateful, foolish, childish, selfish idiot, and more.

That’s one opinion, here’s a discussion of both sides.

You dishonor the sacrifice of those who died for our freedoms by suggesting that someone shouldn’t protest what they disagree with.

i’ve haven’t followed this – only what I can’t avoid as i see headlines and such – only hope is that Mr. Kaepernnick, if he really wants to have an impact, wrote some big checks to Black Lives Matter and other groups, and maybe will even volunteer his time to speak at events (draw crowds, raise money) for the cause.i mean it is nice that he says he cares and did something to raise attention to the issue – but if that’s all he did/does, then kind of a pointless effort.

No, patriotism is not mandatory, nor should it be. That said, it’s difficult to imagine a less meaningful “protest” than refusing to stand for the national anthem. It costs Kaepernick nothing and requires no effort. Has Kaepernick donated any of his tremendous earnings to the causes he proposes to espouse? Has he advocated for his beliefs at any time before his “protest” by taking any kind of meaningful action that wasn’t recorded by TV cameras?

A protest is meaningless unless it involves some risk on the part of the protestor.

Legal Definition of freedom. 1 : the quality or state of being free: as a : the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action b : liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another c : the quality or state of being exempt or released from something onerous.’m sure, if you ask the different factions within and between political parties, you will get different connotative interpretations of the legal definition of freedom. We were warned by many of the founders that this would happen if political parties were allowed to exist creating an “us” and “them”. Our Congress was designed to consider issues and compromise, not become immobilized by polar views of each and every issue … down to the connotative meaning of individual words.

Actually, the Supreme Court upheld the right of refusal to salute the flag, say the pledge of alegience (sp) and a lot of other things, so where do the naysayers get off?

“When and if fascism comes to America it will not be labeled ‘made in Germany’; it will not be marked with a swastika; it will not even be called fascism; it will be called, of course, ‘Americanism’” – An uncredited New York Times reporter covering Halford E. Luccock in an article published September 12, 1938.

Luccock was a professor of Divinity at Yale.

If fascism comes, he added, it will not be identified with any “shirt” movement, nor with an “insignia,” but it will probably be “wrapped up in the American flag and heralded as a plea for liberty and preservation of the constitution.”.John Waterman Wise Jr. 1936.The Nazis and Italian Facists were really big on flags, lots and lots of flags. So were the Soviets.

Let’s not go to North Korea levels with mandatory patriotism, shall we?

Don’t confuse personal rights with employee rights. The NFL won’t be tolerating this distraction once the regular season hits.

Anyone else see the FB pic of the US Congress during the playing of the National Anthem?…They’re all talking, shuffling papers, a few are standing at attention. Kinda says it all.

He tried holding his breath until he turned blue, but nobody cared. Then he grew an vintage 60’s Afro, but just looked silly. So now he just sits on his hands.

Don’t just sit there, do something.

Just because it is ok not to do it doesn’t mean you won’t take some gruff for being disrespectful :)
