Texanistan (the Republic of Y’all Qaeda) — where you can’t save children’s lives because requiring them to wear a mask (or get a vaccine if they are eligible) would be too traumatic, but active shooter drills and the terrorism of an epidemic of real school mass shootings isn’t.
And they have the NERVE to call themselves pro-life?
The statistics are clear: More people are killed by their own weapons than ever use them to effectively protect themselves or others (suicides are a significant fraction of that, by the way). The fantasy that “I’m just as good as anybody else with a gun” is no different from any other wish-fulfillment dream. Only having some innate ability AND working to train and keep in training makes you good. And most of us have better things to do with our time, right?
There are plenty of shooting ranges though. The gun lovers can train to shoot accurately. They don’t want to miss any little kid scurrying around the school benches. They take ‘no child left behind’ to a whole new level.
If shootings aren’t enough there’s always COVID to take care of the rest.
Fact Check. This is wrong. It is legal (unfortunately in my opinion) to carry concealed or open in most places in Texas but Only if you have a License To Carry (LTC). It used to be called a CHL (Concealed Handgun License) until the recent change to include open carry. Many of us with a CHL opposed the change but were overruled. I have had a license for many years, and it was Not easy to get. There was, and from what I can tell still is, an intense class with a somewhat difficult exam at the end, followed by in person safety drills and a proficiency test at a range. The license must be renewed every few years, and on more than one occasion I saw people flunk the test or be completely disqualified for doing something less than totally safe on the range. You also must pass a background check equivalent to those for a police officer. Are the requirements stringent enough? Probably not, I saw one person pass when it was obvious to all the students and the instructor that he had no business carrying (not a bad person, just borderline stupid). Does it make the person competent in a tense situation? No. A lot more training and practice are needed, at the very least. But a license Is required and not just any Yahoo can get one.
Abbott, Patrick and Paxton (TX Gov, Lt Gov and Atty Gen) are all up for re-election in 2022, with great big targets on their sorry derrieres. Should be an ‘interesting’ campaign period.
Let’s stop calling them “guns” and start referring to them as “lifetakers.” Than we can talk about the “all life is precious” mantra of the “pro-life” advocates.
Cops are the hired guns of the ruling class. The working class will disarm them and their bosses first before we disarm ourselves. You betchum, Red Rider.

actually, here in texas, for a concealed carry license, you have to take a class. You also have to show that you have enough skill to aim correctly. Also have to demonstrate that you understand basic gun safety.
And there are no background checks to see if someone is stable mentally. You have to preserve that second amendment right to kill if you want to. Texas is pro fetus to secure the votes of evangelicals. In actuality they are pro war, pro death penalty and there god is Donald Trump. Me, I’m a native Texan and the state lost it’s f*cking mind when it rejected Ann Richards and crowned war criminal and moron GWB as governor. It’s “my body, my right” when it comes to vaccines and masks, but “your body, my right” when it comes to ignorant old white men who hate women, especially black and brown women.
The “logic” behind a law allowing any knuckle-dragging bag of testosterone to open-carry guns in public is akin to the logic to ban abortions.
See, they have a law saying it’s illegal to shoot people (unless “standing your ground”) and so (ta-dah!) people don’t get shot! Likewise, they passed a law making it illegal to rape, and so (ta-dah!) abortions aren’t needed at all! Even for “legitimate” rape!
Maybe, like the Republicans in Wisconsin, they can just outlaw a bunch of words and make those problems disappear, too. Think I’m kidding?
Plug Wisconsin GOP word ban into your search engine of choice.
Gawd, most Republicans really have turned into a party of neo-Nazis and are too radicalized with hatred to know it.
Elon Musk has lost his mind moving Tesla to Texas, a heavily deregulated state that frequently poisons it’s residents, whether they know it or not. I wouldn’t buy a car made there, no matter how much the CEO tells me to trust him.
Have been to Texas twice. Once for basic training and tech school in the Air Force. Once to visit my brother when he was stationed in Texas. I have no reason, nor desire to ever go to that backwards state ever again.
Liberalism is a disease! As Davy Crockett said when leaving to support the brave men at the Alamo – ‘I am going to Texas, the rest of may go to hell.’ Stay OUT of Texas – we don’t want you filthy people here (filthy defined as “idiots that vote Demoncrat”!)
It appears to be a working strategy. In the recent school shooting at the Yes Prep Charter School, the shooter only succeeded in wounding the Principle after he had warned staffers to get the children to safety, as compared to Sandy Hook where the shooter had time to roam around the school an kill 23 people.
“Active Shooter Drills” do nothing but terrorize and traumatize children. We need to get rid of the damned guns! The Founding Fathers never gave anyone any inherent rights to own guns, and if those Tex-ASSholes would actually bother to read the entire First Amendment, and look at what America was like at that time, they’d see that it absolutely does NOT give anything any rights to own firearms.
It very specifically gives Registered Members of Government-Regulated State Militias the right to bear arms! The founding fathers weren’t idiots like Americans are today, and they knew damned well what the difference between the words “bear” and “own” were.
And, if you actually paid attention in Grade 2 Civics, you’d know that the ARMED FORCES ACT made both State Militias and Citizen Soldiers UNLAWFUL and ILLEGAL!! It made the only legal military of America the new Federal Standing Military, and the only legal Militia the National Guard. It completely and utterly NULLIFIED the Second Amendment, making it a dead amendment with no actual applications because no one could actually be a legal Registered Member of a Government-Regulated State Militia, as clearly specified in the Second Amendment!
In fact, that stipulation was especially emphasized by the Founding Fathers by fracturing proper grammar and sentence structure just to mention that absolute requirement for bearing arms FIRST!!
The Right to Bear Arms doesn’t exist in America, period! You want a gun? Get registered as a gun owner, get and maintain a gun owner licence, and register, license an INSURE every single gun you purchase or otherwise acquire!
That is THE ONLY LEGAL WAY TO BE A GUN OWNER IN AMERICA, period!
