Woman: I know it's a proud profession with a noble tradition in the arts, but I don't think suing the political parties for defamation will solve anything.
I’ll never understand why some people are frightened by clowns. The really scary guys are all in suits.
^“Normal” are the scariest people. Hmmmmm, except this political season jeopardizes my long standing belief in that.
How can you sue for defamation when you’re one of the ain characters?
If there were any chance of success, the crooks and grifters would already have filed suit.
If you, or any of your loved ones have been a clown politician, you may be due substantial financial compensation……..
clowns at least have a purpose worth laughing at.
Unfortunately for Wiley’s clown, the political Bozos have turned this election cycle into a 3-ring circus !
Bozo the Billionaire has ruined every aspect of life.
That would be something; but which party or/and candidate?
I do believe that this cartoon has hit the exact truth of the presidential nominees as viewed by most (those few brave:-} individuals….
Senators Watching the Presidential Debate
“I’ll never understand why some people are frightened by clowns.”.Easy to explain. Though I don’t know for sure who started it — Batman comics, with The Joker?, — it has become popular to give the nastiest of evildoers the appearance of circus clowns, especially in movies. For those who grew up with movies and never saw a real circus, these frightening figures are the only “clowns” they are familiar with.
The last run-in I had with a clown was at a toll booth. We were in the car behind. When we got to the booth, we were told that the person had paid our toll. It was the only time I asked about a driver, “Who is that clown?” and meant it nicely.
Wiley makes social, not just “political” commentary. After watching elections and voting for 50 years now, and a change of “party affiliation” though always trying to pick the best, not “least bad” candidates, it’s important to not this commentary is no longer just about the White House.
Congressional, state office, even county and city/town(even tiny ones like mine) races have declined in factual content, and gone to the “farcebook post” style of camaignng, and lack of actual values/ or experience that define qualified candidates. It’s the 15 second sound bite form of information transmittal. Granted, down from 30 seconds of ten years ago…
“Think locally, act globally” in our interconnected society, world wide, and the impacts of LOCAL decisions affecting society and the enviornment far beyond our back yards, makes voter awareness, and intelligence far more important.
But that trend is downward, kinda’ like flaming space debris.
My Dad was in the circus, acrobat and clown….He’d retired by the time i came along…but he still knew most of the performers when the circus came to town…He’d take me into the dressing room…The clowns would tie balloons all over me…..Remember the act where a “gorilla” gets loose and runs through the crowed? Half the time the “gorilla” would sit on my dad’s lap, (or mine)….A typical conversation between the “gorilla” and my Dad, Dad: “Are you going to be in Detroit next week?” Gorilla: Yup but just for three days, I’ve got a wedding to go to…What do you hear from Clyde"….Dad: “Saw him in Bay City this summer.” That’s another cool thing, It was years before I found out Clyde Beatty wasn’t my real uncle….He was one of my dad’s best friends….
I can understand how clowns can seem creepy, though…The whole premise is based on the idea they are not normal human beings…One of my favorite clowns is the one from In Living Color….Homey the Clown….It never failed to crack me up….a classic bit…..prop/weapon…….tennis ball in a sock….
Oh, can’t forget about Crusty The Clown, another classic clown…
Love the rug
Although, you may have a strong case against Trump!!
Clowning around is one thing, but being one at work is a mistake.
I think we’re all Bozos on this bus.
Add this clown to your memories:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBmCJEehYtU
Suing them for broadcasting ads into polling places has potential though…
Nice touch on the orange hair. The Republican debates might have been more palatable and explainable to the world if the candidates had all come stumbling out of a clown car…. “Oh, they aren’t serious candidates for the top leadership position in America, they are just the plucky comic relief to the serious side, now that makes sense….”
