I grew up in the South. I never understood the obsession of the lost war. Sore losers? My friend, Jimmy, from Boston Mass, said out loud in Biloxi Miss, “Hey. They ah still fightin the wah”. “I know Jimmy,” I said. “I grew up with them.” All those Southern Baptists prayed for victory in the war. They didn’t like the answer they got: NO.

I never thought that I was racist when I thought:

I’m from Brooklyn. Racists come from Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina …

I never wore white robes and a hood or burned a cross on my front lawn (OK, people in Brooklyn don’t have front lawns).

That black people could make it if they “just applied themselves” like I did.

That some black people made it, so why can’t they all?

That the only way black people can get civil rights is to steal them from us white people. They can’t win unless I lose and I hate losing.

That it’s not my problem. What can I do about it?

I might be turning the corner. It’s now offending me personally when I see injustices to blacks and other marginalized groups.

I would like to be able to say, “I used to be racist, but then I grew up.”

I just love it when somebody points out how racist the Democratic Party used to be, because it underlines which of the two major parties is capable of learning from its mistakes and actually trying (and often succeeding) to move forward toward a better life for all.

I wish real life was like that. It could be if we practice what Dr. King advocated instead of practicing " identity politics."

Actually, Satan has a special place in his heart for the KKK – all their cursed souls have helped keep his business hopping for 150 years.

Nowhere have I found in the Bible the part that says you can be evil to a class of people because you label them as “other”, for any reason.

Unfortunately for Bubba his character is perfect.

And there’s nobody with character to qualify for the other place, but you can get there by God’s grace.

And now the Republican party that provided freedom is dead set on destroying it and the Democratic party which went to war to keep slavery is now the party of freedom. Don’t you just love irony?
