I’m not a fan of Augustine of Hippo, but according to Galileo ol’ Augie said that if what is obviously true doesn’t agree with what you believe the Bible says then you need to question what you believe the Bible says rather than questioning what is obviously true.
Differing religions are divisive… Intolerance, hatred, killings run rampart… If God exists, is this what a supreme entity would unleash onto the world?
This primer, just like the rest of the commandments, and the entirety of the Holy Bible and Koran and other texts, will/has been twisted to suit the needs of some individual/group/sect/faction/politician/party/ethnicity/state/gender/grifter/church/mega church/snake oil salesman and comics page comment poster. As evidenced by our social media posts on this very page. But, that’s just an opinion….
Problem is facts, i.e. truth, can be more complicated than simple black and white. Most people are just too intellectually lazy to look at or consider the grey.
Ah, but it seems one man’s “facts” can be another man’s “opinions.” A lot of things that were in my school textbooks as facts have turned out to have been guesses, estimates, or data that simply became outdated. I remember articles saying the universe had to be at least 20 billion years old, if not older.
Correct, facts are not opinions. But opinions spring from interpretations of facts. A teenage girl announces at family supper “I’m pregnant”. That’s fact. Everyone else around the table forms their own opinion about the fact.
Fun Fact: we used to have these arguments back before the internet when we dialed into BBS systems. It just wasn’t so widespread. But it was more nerdy.
I have ALWAYS believed in the “scientific method” where "truth’ is malleable ONLY based on independently verifiable facts and “reason” is NOT determined by the loudest voice or the most powerful weapon – and “facts” are not determined by what sounds good by the greatest number of people – believing THAT is what got us stuck in the belief of the “Aristotelian” model of the universe rather than the “Copernican” model for well over a thousand years. Just because something “sounds right” does NOT MAKE IT RIGHT.
One of the basic ideas of growing up is learning that a “bigger hammer” doesn’t ALWAYS make facts fit together – sometimes it just destroys the shape of the facts so that they’re altogether unrecognizable…
Incidentally, journalism teaches that NEWS is differentiated from OPINION by the existence of at least two independently verifiable FACTS. The key word, here, is “verifiable” – that was one of the MAJOR purposes of an EDITOR in any news organization. – they serve as “gatekeepers” resisting the idiotic notion of such things as claiming that anyone can “control” the weather – say… this falls into the same stupidity as “Italian” space lasers starting California forest fires – from under what rocks do these people crawl?
Attention everyone…you will see a link on this page now to “Cartoonists for Kamala”.
Cartoonists for Kamala is a grassroots organization of comics and animation professionals, united to raise money to help elect the Harris/Walz ticket as well as to support down-ballot candidates in their races. The fundraiser is in the form of an auction of original works of art from a star-studded lineup of professional cartoonists and animators, including industry legends and emerging talents alike. All proceeds from the auction will go to Grassroots Democrats HQ.

“Yeah I would testify, absolutely,” “I’m testifying. I tell the truth. All I can do is tell the truth.” – The Reality Show Con Artist 4/12/24
Donald Trump won’t testify at hush money trial as defense rests its case- The Daily News 5/22/22
When someone lies to you as obviously as the Reality Show Con Artist does to MAGAt rubes, it says he believes at least one of three things about them.
1). They are too stupid to know the truth
2) They are as racist and corrupt as he is so they are in on the lie
3) He believes he is so far above them it doesn’t matter if they believe it or not because they are insignificant and will keep their mouths shut
Either way, MAGAts are not good faith partners in our democracy.

A couple additions to this. Cherry picking your facts/data and taking statements out of context does not lead to anything useful.
