This is the major conundrum: Big Government, that gives everyone (except the “rich” of course) a hand out or: small Government that leaves its citizens alone. Liberals want Big Brother Government; conservatives want to be left alone. You can’t have it both ways.
This is a great toon. Obummer has had a cloistered and reactive presidency. I believe Bill Clinton, who was an in-your-face kind of executive showed O the ropes in Charlotte..Fortunately for Obummer and his buddies, the GOP nominated the worst possible guy for the job, and O’s going to get four more years to stop acting like a Senator and start acting like an executive.
No corporate donations at all, none over $1,000, grassroots democracy, economic justice, environmental responsibility, and nonviolence. So naturally the corporate media may not even mention their existence. Vote Green.
This has to be the very first Oliphant cartoon featuring Obama since he became a public figure that has a bit of a sting to it. The closest contender would be the cartoons featuring Obama in overalls lazing on a creek bank—cartoons that would have been called racist if a Republican had drawn them. This hands off treatment has always struck me as wierd coming from the only political cartoonist not afraid to attack Jackson and Sharpton.
Woah! The big government doesn’t give the rich a big handout? Are you kidding? Who’s squawking about cuts in defense spending? And Paul Ryan’s entire family fortune was based on government spending! And he got through college on the social security survivor benefits that his budget eliminates for future American’s whose parents die. What an amazing load of crap!
Conservatives are masters of projection: that is, attributing ones own undesirable characteristics to others. Oliphant is clearly no exception; but his choice of topic is hard to understand. Is he really trying to portray the President as some kind of pampered autocrat , exhorting the masses to labor for his benefit? Compared to whom, I wonder. Romney? How absurd!

It is really more a Romney preview! “We all need to do more, and by ‘we’ I mean ‘you’!”

This cartoon fails to show the GOP jumping up and down on the car.

@Kip WIt also left out the GOP putting the rocks and mud out there in the first place, and doing the rain dance in the second place.
