In about 1965 I was given a Snoopy jack-in-the-box for Christmas. When you turned the handle, it played “Doggy in the Window” before Snoopy popped out. I used to turn the handle backwards sometimes and it played the tune in reverse. I thought that was pretty cool.
I remember the tune of Pop Goes the Weasel played backwards; my siblings and I didn’t need to be left-handed to habitually turn the crank so that it played the tune backwards. The clown popped out regardless of the direction we turned the crank. The tune played backward sounded like any other tune that words could be composed for.
