Going through the Peanuts characters in my mind, I can’t come up with nine who I’m sure play on Charlie’s team, including Lucy. A couple, such as Peppermint Patty and therefore probably Marcie, have played against them. If he gets rid of Lucy, will he even have a team?
Has GoComics noted somewhere (maybe I haven’t seen it) about today in Peanuts (and larger than that) history? From The Jon S. Randal Peace Page on Facebook:
“On July 31, 1968, a young, black man was reading the newspaper when he saw something that he had never seen before. With tears in his eyes, he started running and screaming throughout the house, calling for his mom. He would show his mom, and, she would gasp, seeing something she thought she would never see in her lifetime. Throughout the nation, there were similar reactions. What they saw was Franklin Armstrong’s first appearance on the iconic comic strip “Peanuts.”
The article goes on to talk about how a woman named Harriet Glickman wrote to Charles Schulz’ asking/encouraging him to introduce an African-American character and what Charles’ thinking was at the time. It is a good read for those who appreciate comics like us.

Lucy is a very bad player, in addition there are no other women in the team, so why does she want to continue on the team?

She is a girl not a woman. I don’t know who are all on his team anyway.
