This is another strip I have a very strong physical memory of reading as a child. I still can’t look at that last panel without laughing.

Spike: Whelp i’m chubby now. Not a bad life. SeriouslY I just love his expression in this early arc, just wide eyed and adorable. I don’t mind his later half lidded loook, it suits him better, but sometimes a characters look before the artist really has them down can still be neat, like the earlier more realistic looking garfield, marigolds lankier apperance in early phoebe and her unicorn, and in non comic strip terms, Daredevils yellow outfit I love but most people laugh at for some reason.

I wonder if that gave Mr. Schulz the inspiration for Snoopy’s other brother, Olaf…
