Why read? Watch the 1956 epic historical drama film “War and Peace” based on Leo Tolstoy’s 1869 novel of the same name.

He’ll just have to hate me then. I’m an avid reader but I will never read “War and Peace.”

A test of fortitude is to actually read the entirety of a Faulkner novel. Man, reading that guy’s long winded form of prose is like watching paint dry on a wall. Diametrically opposite of other writers like Hemingway whose work seemed rather “quick” to read such as The Sun Also Rises or Vonnegut (Breakfast of Champions, God Bless You Mr Rosewater).

Last time I tried, I got a third in before other books called. Better than I did when I was a kid…made it a few pages in and put it down.

I’m reading Lester Del Rey’s DAY OF THE GIANTS right now, so Leo must be getting ready to heckle me big time.

Yes Sally, reading is important. Just think, for people that never learned to read English, today’s Peanuts column would just show a blond haired girl holding a white sheet of paper. They would not get the hidden joke behind it!

You know, Sally, your big brother read War and Peace all by himself in a matter of days one time.

Worse yet, the ghost of Leo Tolstoy. Though I prefer to watch one of the two versions of the movie “War and Peace”.

One of the more modern jokes is you don’t want Steven King to hate you. I think there was a Far Side where ??? was having a bad day then he rear-ends SK.

    No…….No I Don’T!!!! That is why I read War & Peace Sally!!!!!

Well actually I read War and Peace in high school because one semester in English class our assignment was to read 1500 pages of book(s) and do reports on the books we read. War and Peace from the school library was 1612 pages long. Took me two weeks to read, one weekend to write the book report for which I got and A and I was done in English class for that semester.
