While I was getting my cruiser tires replaced the bike guy had a discussion with a customer about open pedals, cadence, and carbon fiber wheels that cost a couple of grand each.

The degree of my dislike for Jef[f] the Cyclist is in inverse proportion to his weight reduction. —Gee; maybe he could waste away to NOTHING AT ALL; ya think?

Smart of him, BTW, to lose an F instead of one of those L’s in Mallet… that crossbar must weigh something…though those final T’s are probably heavier and even more useless.Maybe next year…

Jef is an idiot. Let’s say that actually does eliminate weight from the brain, it’s bound to be about .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 of a gram, so infinitesimal of a weight as to not even have any serious effect on Jeff’s preformance on the hill climb. The sunglasses add more weight than the letter F could, so loose them.

This good natured ribbing is nothing compared to the real fun that happens when cartoonists party. That’s why it’s such an isolated profession. Too much togetherness would be a disaster of immense proportions.

Re: “Someone explain the pun…what is the significance of Pig’s comment in Panel 3?”I can’t believe you missed it, but the name went from “Jeff The Cyclist” in panel 1 to “Jef The Cyclist” in Panel 3 – one “f” in “Jeff” was dropped. And the cartonist for Frazz is Jef (one “f”) Mallett.

I almost flattened a cyclist once. I was coming up on a red light, no cars in front of me, one van stopped at the light in the lane to my left. Light turned green before I approached the intersection, I whzzed through, wondering why the van wasn’t moving. Then I saw the cyclist run the red light on the street perpendicular to my direction of travel. I jerked the wheel to the left, passed the cyclist who ws still in the right lane, missed him by about a foot, jerked again to the right after passing said cyclist. Saw him pull up at the other side of the street, stop, and let out a huge sigh. I had only been driving for about 6 months to a year at that time.
