Greenland is mostly ice, and Iceland is mostly green.

Actually, when it was named Greenland by Eric the Red, it was as today mostly ice. The Viking settlers occupied a very small habitable area. They named it Greenland in hopes of attracting settlers. Now, why is New Jersey called “The Garden State”?

Farewell to Tarwathie…..The cold cold coast of Greeneland is barren and bare. And there’s no bird in Greenland to sing to the whale….

Greenland is where the conquest came from the other direction. As the climate cooled, Inuit from Ellesmere Island started moving in and slowly taking over from Danish farmers who were too slow to adapt to colder conditions.

Naw, Rat, you don’t want to invade Greenland, you want to build a wall around it—and make Denmark pay for it!

One of my high school friends got posted to Tahiti, the other went to Thule. After the first guy boasted about all the social action he got supplying booze to underage girls, we turned to the second guy and asked about his time there. “Oh, Thule is great. There’s a woman behind every tree.”

One can’t help wondering for what, precisely, Pastis was searching the internet the day he stumbled across that little-known factoid.

Wish Rat was made of ice.

The reason I wish that should be pretty obvious to everyone.
