Now that I think about, don’t chicken sandwiches at fast-food places (McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, or even Chick-fill-A) also count as a salad when there’s lettuce and tomato in it?

That food item always reminds me of “chicken salad sandwich luck”: “That guy’s so lucky he could fall into an Arab privy and come out holding a chicken salad sandwich.”

Earl should be happy that Opal is even bringing him something good to eat.

So, he’s concerned there is not enough lettuce, tomato, celery, whatever? If I got a chicken salad that was all chicken, I certainly wouldn’t gripe about it. (This doesn’t have enough lettuce, tomato, celery, whatever, can I have egg salad instead?)

Seems unlike Earl to complain about a lack of greenery in his sandwich.

    Maybe it’s strictly a semantic correction…. he doesn’t want more lettuce…

He’s just pointing out a flaw in the nomenclature.

In which case, Opal may wish to point out a flaw in his expectations.

    Namely, that he expects lunch.

My wife’s chicken salad has celery, grapes, mayo, and honey. It sure is good on hot summer days.

Maybe giving Opal a gift certificate to a cooking school would be a good investment.

I couldn’t agree more; a salad should be of the lettuce variety…

Wait a few days and when it turns green will it then be salad enough for you?

Why is it people refer to a type of sandwich spread as tuna FISH salad, but not chicken BIRD salad. It’s not that there’s a tuna other than a fish. (insert pun about tuna piano)

Chicken Salad is one of my husband’s favorite meals! Fortunately the deli at our local grocery makes the best in town and I just doctor it up a bit.

To me – salad is greens and other vegetables. Not some crappy mayo-mixed conglomeration that ruins the taste of anything it is added to.

Forget the sandwich part. I love homemade chicken or tuna salad served on a large avocado half.

I will occasionally make burritos with chicken or tuna salad because I don’t like sandwich bread.
