When I was a kid growing up I got up early. My mother asked me why I got up so early. My dad was standing there and said. “So he can have a longer day to do nothing”.
The trouble with doing is nothing is that it still takes all day. I make “Have Done” lists which records my accomplishments rather than “To Do” lists which linger like three-day old fish. :)
This is just a wild notion, but I think men are the daytime nappers and women, not-so-much. I can not sleep in the daytime. I have been known to realize my chin has located itself on my chest when I awake after about 30 seconds of an unauthorized “nap” sitting in front of the TV.
This strip as with Earl closely resembles me. One major difference, Earl can move around he is lazy, for me I am sitting in a wheel chair, if you saw my post yesterday you will know why. I am still in pain lower left hip bone hurts. I do end up taking a nap about 10 a.m. then about 8:30 p.m. I am almost beat yet I try to stay up until after 9 p.m. then clean what I can and crash. Having a continued fracture and bone that dislocated not fun, found out the bone will take 2 years before healed, no cast or surgery can be done. Then through another comic strip, a commenter told me about her sister also femur broke and bed fast, cannot have surgery or cast she is half way healed. 3 months before I go back to orthopedics for another painful x-ray on a pad to see where the bones doing. Plus I requested PT to show me how to try my left leg. No wrap.
I’m not deliberately trying to open a can of worms, here, but rather, just sharing my opinion…It kind of galls me, that when someone gets to finally retire, and they choose to sit around all day, and relax, at least for a while, there is someone there that is badgering them to get up, and do something. I have been working for almost 60 years… there are days I want to sit, and do nothing, and not get pestered, that I “shouldn’t sit around all day, doing nothing.”

Roscoe looks very comfortable. Ready for a nap. Earl statement surprised him a little.

What’s the matter, Earl? The battery on your wristwatch gone dead and you don’t want to bother going to the horologist to replace said battery?

Doing nothing is hard work.

When you get older, your “Energizer” batteries begin to lose their storage capacity. More power naps are needed to recharge.

It can be very exhausting (even draining) to use your mind so much as Earl does.

This happens to me too. Yesterday, it seemed like one minute it was 1:00 and five minutes later, it was 2:30. Where did yesterday go?

What is it with naps and geezers? I was Abe Lincoln’s paperboy and I don’t nap.
Get up and do something! Plenty of time for naps, when you’re in the grave.
I’ve been thinking about buying a bike, to get some gentle exercise.
The Honey says to me ’’You’re not going to wear one of those sissy helmets, are you?’’
What’s she thinking? Hmmmm. I kinda like that ‘’Hello Kitty’’ helmet, comes with a bell.

Opal could put up a wall clock. There are two kinds of people. Those of us who wear watches and those who say, “What time is it?”

Roscoe imitates Earl when sitting!

Hard work is where you find it. Many can’t sit so long. Earl had to build himself up to it.

I’d love to nap but when I try, I snort snore and wake myself up.

Does anyone know the date of the one where the child is upset and the grandad gives him a pep talk then tells him to get out of his chair?

For the record, I hate naps, they keep me from having a good night’s sleep.
Having said that, that’s me, how you spend the day, is your choice.
Better to burn out, than rust away.
